What seemed to be a common meteor shower, weeks later revealed to be a worldwide invasion. TV stations shown footage of what looked like falling stars that lit up the night and then disappeared. Such an event occurred in rural areas next to the town outskirts. The government's intelligence knew what it was and feared for the worse. USA, Russia and Japan authorities warned the remaining nations about the incoming threat, recommending selective evacuation to remote areas away from major cities. Some countries dismissed the warning and sent the military to investigate the crash sites, they soon discovered how reckless they were.
São Paulo, Brazil.
"Is it the police?" said the farmer, "something fell from the sky and exploded in the middle of my crops."
"Don't worry," said the police officer, "we're sending a vehicle to investigate, do not approach the area in any circumstance."
The farmer was sweating and in fear, something in his brain told to gather his family and leave the farm to his city apartment. Doing so, in the road to São Paulo he saw a military convoy in the opposite lane at full speed. The police called for the army, thought the farmer, something huge is happening.
"Reduce speed, we're near the landing zone. The sergeant said."
He closed his mouth when what seemed to be an Earthquake struck the vehicles, rolling them over. The soldiers came out armed looking for a target, meanwhile, from the depths below, a massive six stories high bipedal robot rose from the ground. A cloud of dust surrounded the soldiers leaving them blind in the open field, there was a complete silence and then, a heatwave set them all ablaze. The robot moved towards the nearby megalopolis, São Paulo, trampling the carbonized corpses and the burned vehicles, leaving a trail of destruction behind.
"They're so primitive and easy to conquer." The Pemakan robot's copilot said.
"There is no sense of achievement in what we're doing, it takes away all the joy of the battle." The pilot said.
"At least we'll feed on them to the last drop." The pilot said.
"Let's hurry then, we still have lots of work ahead."
The metal monster increased its stride length, almost running, crushing anything in its way.
"Unit reporting, we're active and on the move. Battalion location verified and marked." The pilot said.
"Start coordinated attack when in position!" The Pemakan general said.
The titans, as they called it, got to their target positions and fired nuclear shells in all directions throughout the city. Earth's military counterattacked with airborne fighter jets and surface to air missiles, it inflicted damage to the enemy but the use of nuclear weapons turned the table in Pemakan's favor, they destroyed the resistance and incinerated most of the city structures, incapacitating any maneuvering. Civilians tried to leave town as they could, the nuclear blasts caught most, the luckier escaped when they saw the first nuclear flash, boom and roar. From the sky, the attack resembled a termite nest set on fire and its population fleeing outside the colony.
Gorganol Davaela walked into the Pemakan commander center, they positioned the fleet in Low Stationary Orbit.
"Status report colonels."
"We destroyed all network of artificial satellites commander, there is no sign of retaliation targeting our spaceships. City attacks are under way with minimal unit losses. Earth military capacity operates as expected, thus not being match for our forces." The Colonel in Chief said.
"Excellent Colonel, deploy the Moving Towers when the cities fall under our dominion, but first release the Sea Boilers to flood the seashore cities and intensify the greenhouse effect. I'll return to my quarters."
Gorganol walked out of the commander center with a calm countenance.
"São Paulo city is ours. Victory is at hand!" The colonel responsible for the southern hemisphere said.
This message echoed through all fleet crew. Screams echoed in the spaceships corridors as city after city collapsed. Gorganol felt joy and relief.
So much time passed since we started our journey, every soldier, besides the settlers, left their families behind. Our actions will reverberate through the stars and send a clear message to all competing alien powers, don't get in our way, join us or fall!
Gorganol peeked through his quarters window to the explosive spectacle below, he drank liquid methane finest brew known as Akhab, an oily clear liquid, best drink in low temperatures.
The delicious taste of home, the ever lasting sea and its wonders. I'll never see it again, my home country, with vast borders that only matters now to define our cultural heritage. The lovers moons, Ember and Thorog, embraced in an eternal dance. What a poor trade-off for this small and pathetic blue planet.
By the end of the day, Tokyo, London and New York suffered the fallout effect of the nuclear blasts, everything was in flames, melting bodies scattered through the streets and the metallic scent of radiation taken by the dusty winds. Long forgotten bunkers from Second World War received new residents in USA and Russia, they were the only options available for local authorities and their families. Due to decades of neglect they couldn't sustain life for more than a few weeks. On the surface, Spider vehicles scanned every square meter of ruins to eliminate any hostiles. Pemakan foot soldiers walked unharmed among the dead.
