Chapter Twenty Three
[Madeline's Point of View]
Daemon's chit-chat was kind of getting on my nerves. It's like a never-ending lecture. I don't even know his point of lecturing me. Was he trying to get me to like his scheme of power-sucking? No way. As long as I live, I'm against those Eagle Boards. Positive.
A minute or so, I'd try to see Jack out of the corner of my eyes. He's battered, but still OK. Once in a while, I could hear Aaron's scream, parting through the riot and the sounds of swords clashing and horrors and pain. I saw Daniel, but strangely, since Daemon summoned that Shadownight, I haven't seen Daniel. I wonder where he was
"Let's just get this over with," I said. "I want my stuffs back."
He laughed. "And how are you going to get that? Supposedly, I'm not going to give it to you that easily. Oh, and without your ring and staff, your power has decreased about 30%, aren't I right?" he smiled menacingly. Ugh, I hate it when either Daemon or Ivan smile or laugh. Clearly, their happiness wasn't sincere or anything.
All I wanted to do now is stabbing him with a butter knife like that Peter guy did on one of my favorite books, Divergent. God, how I miss my books and novels. I want to smell those fresh pages, and soft covers. If I could bring one thing, it'd be my bookshelves which were obviously filled with neatly stacked novels and books.
Daemon's right. Madeline could feel herself getting a little bit weaker when she first noticed that her ring and staff were missing. What could she do? It's not as if she had some connected-link between her and her belongings that could make them glide towards Madeline. Or maybe...
She lifted her hands into the air and concentrated. Her muscles tensed, and she could feel a sudden tug on her stomach. This is it, the staff and ring started to rattle. 'Just a little bit more.' The staff and ring started to levitate, and it glided elegantly towards her hands. "Told you I wanted my stuffs back." I pointed my index finger, which is now decorated with my ring, and blasted a blaze of fire at Daemon's direction. He dodged the blast by sending an orb towards my direction, and I rolled to my left, right where Jack and Ivan are battling each other.
"Well, well. How about we make this fight into a two vs. two, eh? Wouldn't that be adoring." Ivan threw a knife at Jack direction, and I managed to blast some light at the knife's direction, blowing the knife out of its way.
The battle went on. I could see that some people stopped fighting, and watched the two of us battle Ivan and Daemon.
After forty-five minutes, Ivan was already tired and brutally bruised. Jack was taking a short, quick, time-out, while Daemon and I kept on fighting. It seemed like this guy had no problem at all with his power and stamina, which is odd. There must've been something that's keeping this guy up and about. Something that's been giving him the power. But what is it? Oh, well, what's a better way to find out than making him say it by himself? "Look at you, all tired and weak. Oh, this is getting boring."
He blasted a lightning bolt. "No way. Tired and weak? Look at me! I'm strong. There's no way I'm weak and tired."
"Well, you're acting, and sounding very shaky and unstable. You want to give up?" I said. It seemed as if Daemon's short-tempered thingy was clearly helping me out. Thank goodness this guy wasn't those calm and assertive types like Ivan. I wonder why they didn't make Ivan as the Head of the Eagle Board. Maybe because Daemon was the founder of the power-absorbing method. But then again, these weren't my businesses so, I don't care.
He shouted, "I am powerful! How dare you say I am weak! The powers that I have absorbed has been giving me unlimited supplies of energies and powers! They're stored on this necklace that I am wearing! See, I am not weak." In that moment, I could've sworn that I held back a laugh. This guy is seriously hard-headed enough to show me his weakness.
