Chapter Two
Her head felt like jellybeans. Her body was completely numb. Her eyesight? Don't even mention it. She could feel the atmosphere wasn't familiar to her, so it was definitely not her room. She felt helpless as she tried to move her fingers. Every inch of her body stung whenever she move a little.
When you couldn't move, don't try to stand up. That's Madeline's suggestion, because when she tried to stand up, she winced. The pain was like being stabbed by dozens of sharp stalactites. Her head was spinning, and her mouth was quivering. All she could do now was to rely on her ear and her nose, which wasn't helping anyway.
"Finally. You slept like a zombie, we thought you were dead." A voice came off booming cheerfully. It was definitely a boy. "Are you a bear or something? Cause you slept for three entire days. Without eating and drinking."
Madeline frantically searched the source of that voice. If her limbs could move, she'd already punch the boy. But, fortunately, she could barely move an inch without twitching, and her eyes were blurry. The guy was lucky.
"Here, have some Chocolate Fruits. They're good at healing you." The boy gave Madeline the chocolate, but Madeline couldn't grab it. She barely could open her mouth when he shove the chocolate into her mouth.
The Chocolate Fruits tasted like Chocolate. But then, as Madeline chewed on it, it began to change its flavor into some kind of a tropical fruit. What is it called again? Papayas? No. Definitely not Papayas. Oh, Bananas! Wait, no. It's not banana. Is it coconut? After several more chewing, she was sure it was coconut.
It was tasty, and when she swallowed it down, her numbness began to fade. Her head wasn't spinning around, and when she moved her fingers, she didn't twitched or winced at all. But still, she told herself to just lie down, because when she tried to stand up, her body froze. Her body was still trying to heal itself. But the best part was that her vision cleared and the blurriness was gone. She wondered if they sold these Chocolate Fruits back at Harvard.
She surveyed her surroundings. It was cozy, though. 'Quite a large house,' she thought.
The floor was made out of plywood, and it had a rug made out of tiger's skin in the center of the floor. The walls were made out of bamboos covered in wallpapers. Wait, those weren't wallpapers. The bamboos were covered in paint. It was painted green, and it had some blue flower patterns all over it. The painting looked so flawless, and awesome, Madeline thought it was wallpapers. There were some photos on the walls. She tried to squint her eyes to get a better look, but her eyes hadn't healed 100%. On her left, she could see another bed, similar to the one she's occupying, about three meters to her left. There must've been two people living here. There was a wooden coffee table, five meters to her right, along with two, white, and comfy couches on either side of the table. There were two windows, and between them were three bookshelves filled with old and dusty books. The ceiling was made out of wood, and a lamp was dangling limply. And also, there was a stair leading into the upper part of the house.
Madeline thought the house must've been a one-story building, so the upper part must've been the attic or the roof. But then she saw something odd.
When she stared at the window, she was hoping she would find pedestrians, roads, or cars and trees. But instead, she saw the tip of some bushes, and beyond that, was the blue, clear sky. Wait, those weren't bushes. Those were the tip of a forest.
"We're in a tree house," Madeline whispered to herself.
The boy nodded, "Yup, that's right." Madeline jumped back when she heard him.
