Chapter Ten

High above the air, they soared through the blue sky. The wind was blowing everybody's hair, leaving it disordered when the flow has stopped. The feeling, the adrenaline, all rushed through their body, giving them that excited feeling. "Do you guys see the river?" Madeline shouted to them. Although they're all riding on the same bird, the wind was too noisy that she just had to shout.

"I don't think I've seen a river, how about you?" Jack asked both Madeline and Daniel. Both shook their head, giving a no. "Well, according to the map, it's thirty kilometers away from the town we left, so maybe we just have to wait an hour or less." Jack's eyes narrowed. He was trying very hard to find the Blue Lake.

Daniel yawned, "I'm getting sleepy. Can I sleep for a while? I haven't slept for days." Before anyone could say yes or no, Daniel already laid himself down and snored, loudly.

"You couldn't get any more annoying," Madeline said. Jack laughed. Hearing Jack's laughter, Madeline remembered a question she always wanted to ask for Jack. "Oh yeah, Jack. You said that you've had a sister. Can you tell me what happened? I mean if it's okay for you." Jack looked at his right side, trying to avoid eye contact. His expression showed a sad one. Everything went silent. The only thing which could be heard was the rush of the wind.

"It was a cloudy day. I was eleven years old. My sister was turning ten, and she said that she wanted to explore the forest near my home that day. She was known as the youngest and most powerful wizard. She told me that she would be back at two o'clock. But she never came back. I waited on the doorstep, hoping to see my sister's bright face. But she didn't come. I was left wondering where my sister was. That night, my parents came back from town, but strangely, they had bruises all over their bodies and they looked as if they had a fierce battle."

That's when I realized that it was true. My sister was kidnapped by the Eagle Boards. She was held captive on one of those moving prisons, being transferred into Eagle Board's lair. My parents were on their way home when they saw the moving prison. They were just looking at it at first, but then as they look through the small bars on the upper walls of the prison, they saw a girl, lying limply as she was too weak to do anything. And that girl, was my sister."

My parents fought with the Eagle Board's soldiers, which happened to be very strong. They fought viciously. My parents were so focused on battling the soldiers, they didn't notice that one of the wizard was grabbing my sister. He was taking my sister as a hostage. He yelled, 'Surrender, or your precious daughter will die!'. My parents surrendered, but the wizard violated his words."

Madeline gasped, "What, what happened?"

He sighed and took a deep breath. "He stabbed her chest with a knife."

Madeline's eyes were teary. She began to shred some tears through her clear eyes. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't be the one crying." Jack gave a small smile. "So, how about your parents? Where are they now?"

"They're dead, Madeline." he slowly spoke again, "They had an accident. All, of my family members, are dead. Every one of them. The people I love the most, are dead. They're gone, forever." His expressions became flat. Grief could make people change. Loss made people tougher.

Madeline sighed, "My parents were dead." Jack's eyes looked at Madeline, taken aback by the fact that both of their parents are dead. "They were dead just before I was kidnapped. I was in college that time, which is miles away from home. Oh, and if you don't know what college is, think of it as a school."

That morning, I got a phone call, from my friend. Her voice sounded as she if was crying, which she was. She told me that..." Madeline stopped. "That my parents had an accident. And they died." Madeline's tears started to stop. It just stopped by itself. "The last time I saw them was five months or four months ago."
