CUT TO:
EXT. SALLY'S SANDWICH SHOP – NIGHT
Ramona is waiting for Simon to close up shop. When he finishes, he looks at her.
RAMONA: Do you want to walk me home?
Simon lets out a breath.
SIMON: Seriously? I mean—uh—yeah, of course.
They start to walk in her dorm's direction. He shoves his hands in his jacket's pockets, and she clenches her fists.
CUT TO:
EXT. SIDEWALK – NIGHT
RAMONA: How come you always want to walk me home?
SIMON: What do you mean?
RAMONA: Like, every time after we get off work. You ask if you can walk me home.
SIMON: Oh. Well. It's late. I want to make sure you got home safe.
RAMONA: Would you do the same for Haley?
Simon hesitates.
SIMON: If she had your shift, yeah, I guess.
Ramona nods.
RAMONA: Cool.
SIMON: I—
Ramona looks at him.
SIMON: Will you let me read the script when it's finished?
RAMONA: If I finish it.
SIMON: Oh come on. Of course you will. I'll make sure of it.
Ramona smiles slightly.
RAMONA: I still don't know where I'm gonna get a cast. Or a crew.
SIMON: I know a few people.
Ramona stops.
RAMONA: What? (incredulously) Seriously?
SIMON: Well, I mean, yeah. I used to act so—
RAMONA: You used to ACT?
Simon looks at her and laughs.
SIMON: Yeah. I mean, not professionally, but my best friend and I used to make movies so—
RAMONA: Simon, this is perfect! You're perfect! Do you still talk to your best friend?
SIMON: Yeah?
RAMONA: Can I meet him?
SIMON: I mean, sure.
RAMONA: Oh my God. You're amazing.
Simon blushes.
SIMON: I mean, it's really not a big deal.
RAMONA: No, it is. I can't believe I never thought of this. I was being so selfish.
SIMON: Mones?
RAMONA: I guess some dreams just need another person to believe in them for them to be real, huh?
Simon smiles.
SIMON: I guess so.
CUT TO:
EXT. RAMONA'S DORM BUILDING – NIGHT
RAMONA: Well. This is my stop.
Simon looks up at the building.
SIMON: Which one's yours?
Ramona looks up and squints. She points vaguely at the building.
RAMONA: That one.
SIMON: Ramona, I really care about you.
Ramona blinks at him.
RAMONA: What?
SIMON: I just—I needed to get that off my chest.
Ramona is silent. So is Simon. After some time, she clears her throat.
RAMONA: I'm gonna go—
She points at the entrance.
SIMON: Yeah, yeah. Okay.
RAMONA: Thanks for—um—walking me.
SIMON: Yeah, of course. Any time.
Ramona presses her lips together then brisk-walks to the door. Simon holds his head in his hands and sighs.
CUT TO:
INT. RAMONA'S DORM ROOM – NIGHT
Ramona's eyes are wide as she enters the room.
RAMONA: (mouthing) Oh my God.
She presses one hand to her forehead as she bows her head and paces the room.
RAMONA: I really care about you? What does that mean?
She pauses and looks up, smiles a little then shakes her head.
RAMONA: God. I really need to focus.
She sits on her desk and opens her laptop screen. She stretches her fingers and tilts her head from side-to-side, as if to warm up for an exercise.
RAMONA: (muttering) I'm going to finish you, even if it kills me.
She begins to type.
