CUT TO:

INT. SALLY'S SANDWICH SHOP – NIGHT

Ramona is wiping down the tables in preparation for closing. Simon emerges from the kitchen, running a hand through his hair.

RAMONA: Hey. Ready to go?

SIMON: Yeah.

Ramona gets up to her full height and tosses him the cloth she was using to wipe down the tables. He dodges slightly but catches it.

RAMONA: Alright. Let me just grab my stuff and we can go. Wanna walk me?

SIMON: Actually, my friends and I are going out tonight. I was wondering if you wanted to come with.

Ramona looks at the clock. It was only a little past 8 P.M.

RAMONA: Oh.

SIMON: We're just having a couple of drinks. You don't have to drink if you don't want to. You don't even have to go if you don't want to.

RAMONA: No, no, I'd love to.

SIMON: Really? I mean, yeah, of course. (pause) No—not of course.

He shakes his head.

SIMON: Leo just thought it'd be nice to get to know you better.

Ramona raises an eyebrow.

RAMONA: So it's Leo who's inviting me. Not you.

SIMON: (flustered) What? No. No. It's me. It was my idea.

RAMONA: Okay, whatever. Can I freshen up before we go?

SIMON: What for?

RAMONA: What do you mean what for? I just worked for six hours, Simon.

SIMON: I—Yeah, I was just—You look... fine.

Ramona scrunches her brows together and looks at him. He's avoiding her eyes.

RAMONA: Okay. Whatever. Wait here.

CUT TO:

INT. RESTROOM – NIGHT

Ramona ties her hair and splashes her face with water. She wipes her face on her arm and looks at herself in the mirror. At the thought of Simon, she laughs and bows her head.

CUT TO:

INT. SALLY'S SANDWICH SHOP – NIGHT

SIMON: (muttering) You look fine. Seriously... I'm an idiot.

Ramona emerges from the bathroom, her hair still up, a reddish tint on her lips.

RAMONA: I'm ready to go.

Simon turns around. His lips part slightly.

SIMON: Are you wearing—Is that lipstick?

RAMONA: (self-consciously) Yeah, why? I always keep one in my bag.

Simon shakes his head.

SIMON: Uh, nothing. I've just never seen you wear it before.

RAMONA: Does it look bad? Should I wipe it off?

He's silent.

RAMONA: I'll go wipe it off.

She turns to go back into the rest room, but he grabs her by the wrist.

SIMON: You look fine. Let's go.
