"It looks like something from one of those sci-fi movies."

"Head back, (y/n)." Emerald placed a hand on (y/n)'s shoulder and lowered him onto the patient's table but he immediately lifted his head to check out the large piece of machinery the moment Emerald released him. His curiosity was like a child's. "(y/n)." Emerald admonished him and he reluctantly placed his head back against the table.

"What's it stand for?"

"Hm?"

"MRI. What's it stand for?"

"Magnetic Resonance Imaging."

(y/n) nodded. "Don't understand it, but sounds fancy."

Emerald smiled a little. "It is fancy. Now stop fidgeting and sit still."

(y/n) lifted his head once again, this time to look at the doctor. Much to his amusement, Emerald corrected his position again.

After the two left the doctor's office, Emerald led (y/n) down to the medical wing for an MRI scan. Now that they were no longer discussing heavier subjects, they both felt a little lighter. Since both Emerald and Ruby sort of believed him, he suddenly didn't feel like an alien anymore. Now, he didn't have to hold back stories in front of Ruby and he could tease Emerald and know she wouldn't think of him as a stalker. (y/n) grinned at the thought and stretched out on the table, getting comfortable by placing his hands behind his head.

Emerald stared at him disappointed. She was done trying to get (y/n) to sit still. Instead, she left the room to help the MRI technician who was prepping the machine for use. The tech, an older woman with a little grey in her hair, hit a few more buttons on the side of the cylindrical machine. Eventually, the machine came to life.

"Alright (y/n), I'm gonna need you to put your arms down to your sides." Mrs. Morra said and (y/n) did as he was told. "We're gonna raise the table and get you ready to go in." The technician pushed a few more buttons and the table (y/n) rested on rose up. "It's gonna be loud but it won't hurt you in any way."

The woman hit another set of buttons and the table stopped. Mrs. Morra reached into the machine and pulled out a head cage. "Try not to move. Any movement could blur the image. Understood?"

(y/n) gave the tech a thumbs up before she slid the cage over his head and hit a few more buttons, causing the table to slide into the MRI scanner. Emerald crossed her arms as she watched, practically waiting for (y/n) to start fidgetting again, but frowned slightly when she realized he did exactly as he was told.

Mrs. Morra sat down at a desk and started the scanning process on her computer. The machine made a few chirping noises as the scanning process started. After a few seconds, the woman's screen displayed the image of (y/n)'s brain in blue and white.

The MRI technician cocked her had to the side as she watched the scans come through. "Well isn't that interesting..." She murmured slightly, catching Emerald's attention. The doctor made her way to Mrs. Morra's side to see what the woman had found. Mrs. Morra pointed at the middle of (y/n)'s brain scan. "His temporal lobe is quite large... Look at that..."

"That's where long term memories are stored..." Emerald said under her breath. "And look at this hippocampus and amygdala..." Emerald pointed at the screen. The mentioned areas were much larger than she'd ever seen on other patients. "That's incredible."

"In all my years, I've never seen a temporal lobe so robust!" Mrs. Morra stated. "I've seen a few pretty close in size, but they were almost always scarred... Usually, head trauma of some sort. His though... His is surprisingly active." The image on the screen pulsed a few times in a few areas. The pulses came through as a lighter blue as (y/n)'s thoughts flickered in his head.
