924 AF1.1 - Emerald's POV

I sat at my desk, once again pouring over (y/n)'s documents, hoping to find some hint of what I could do to help him. Though there was a knock on the door that pulled my attention away. I let out a sigh and walk over to the door, annoyed by the interruption. Before I could reach the door, it opened and (y/n) poked his head into the room.

I felt myself stiffen. We hadn't spoken since his MRI the day before and frankly, I was afraid of the moment (y/n) would show up here. The whole situation tore me apart inside. I couldn't leave but I couldn't stay. Either way, I'm sure it would end in heartache for (y/n). I feel myself cringe at the thought and hoped (y/n) didn't notice.

I watch (y/n) slowly enter my office. He quietly pushed the door closed behind him and bit his lip. "Can we talk about what happened yesterday?"

I froze where I stood. My nerves fired too fast to calm myself down. I slowly made my way to the front of my desk and leaned against it. "Nothing happened, (y/n)." I couldn't think of what to say, so I let my training take over.

(y/n) let out an amused huff, almost as if he knew I'd respond that way. "Funny... I'm pretty sure we almost kissed."

I sigh and cross my arms in front of my chest. "You're imagining things." I just want (y/n) to drop the subject. Maybe if we could act as nothing happened, it would give us time to think about the options. Some psychiatrist you are, I thought to myself.

"Am I? Cause I know I was gonna kiss you. And it really didn't seem like you were gonna stop me." (y/n) wasn't really one to mince words. He knew as much as I did what almost happened. It was clear he wanted me to admit it. He took a step closer towards me, the motions mocked one of a predator who cornered its prey.

"(y/n)..." I shook my head and gave in. "Okay... yeah... you're right. I would've let it happen, but it was... a lapse in judgement."

I looked up expecting to see (y/n) wince a little but instead took another step forward, almost daring me to stop him. I couldn't stop him. Instead, I held his stare to fight him back.

"I get it, Em. You're scared. You don't know if you can love me... but you have. A million times over. It's not that hard if you'd just let yourself..."

I couldn't hold his gaze any longer and turned away. "It's not that easy..." All the confidence from earlier disappeared and my voice came out small.

"Yeah... it is." His voice was directly in my ear and I felt my whole body stiffen. I hadn't noticed how close (y/n) had gotten. A tingle ran down my spine. "You just need to try."

I swallowed as his warm breath caressed my neck. I felt myself start to give in, but once again forced myself into a passive role. It felt a lot safer to pretend like I didn't want it and simply let (y/n) take the lead. A way to soften my guilt I guess.

After a brief moment of silence, I felt (y/n) close the gap even more. His lips enveloped my ear lobe. My skin chilled with goosebumps at the sensation and my heart leapt into my throat. I forced down the urge to let out a moan and yet a small strained noise managed to escape. (y/n) moved along my jaw with small kisses along my jawline. As must as I tried to not give in, I felt the effects travel through my entire body. I found myself aching in my core as (y/n)'s lips touched my throat, leaving hot kisses along my skin.

I hate to admit it, but I wanted this. I wanted to fight it but I felt powerless to. (y/n) just knew how to make me crumble. There was a dizzying sensation in my head and my heart leapt into my throat. There was a moment I felt like I was going to collapse, but luckily for me, (y/n) pulled away and let me regain my senses. (y/n) watched me and waited and I felt myself give in. I set my eyes on his.
