"Cheyenne Williams. Pronounced Shay-En."
The grumpy lady sat the desk sighed as I cheerfully announced my name. I glanced around the unfamiliar blue room, it reminded me of a dentist's office.
"So, what's life like here in Cali..." I examined her name tag. "...Edna?"
She raised her eyebrows at me then continued to type on her keyboard.
"Do I have a timetable...or something?"
"You'll be shadowing someone."
Wow, the skeleton has a voice.
"So like, following somebody around?"
"Precisely. Okay. You're checked in." Her voice dragged on with every word. I took this as my cue to leave.
Realising that I'd forgotten something, I turned back to Edna.
"Oh, and, who will I be shadowing?"
"Ava. Here's your girl."
A girl about my age, maybe slightly older, approached me. She had gentle ombré hair that was ever so lightly curled. Her eyes were a pretty green and she was rather tanned, which made me totally jealous. I was one of those girls whose hair was too bright to make their skin look tanned. I had ginger hair. Bright ginger hair.
"Cheyenne Williams, now that's a fancy name!" She cooed.
I chuckled.
"Call me Chey. It's so much easier." This girl seemed alright. Probably too pretty to be friends with me. Probably one of the popular girls.
"So...do you miss Florida?"
"I guess. But I think I like it here too."
"We do have lots of hot surfer boys here in Cali."
"Oh gosh, no. I'm not here for the boys. I don't do boys."
"You don't 'do' boys?" She asked, a mischievous grin appearing on her face.
"Oh god, no, not like that! I mean, I'm just, not all that interested in boys."
"You clearly have no idea what some of the pupils in this school are like, do you? Look out for the Triple T."
"The Triple T?" I asked, clearly confused.
"The Track Team."
"Oh, I was hoping to join the Track Team, actually!"
"So you have heard about these boys?"
"No no, I just like to run."
"You'll see when you get there..." She sang, biting her lip jokingly.
"I'm not kidding! I used to run in my old school. In fact, i was kinda the fastest.."
"Well then you simply MUST sit with me at lunch so you can tell me what tryouts are like!"
"But...tryouts are after school."
"I still need to introduce you to everybody! We'll be your friends here! You seem like a nice enough girl."
"-Who isn't capable of making her own friends, huh?" I cut in, smiling at what she had said.
"Now Chey, you know I didn't mean that!" She chuckled. I heard sickly sweet giggling coming from nearby so I turned around. I soon saw one of those incredibly cliche groups of girls. They were all blonde, and from what I saw, they were all natural aswell.
"Just like every other stereotypical Highschool, we have...the queen bee and her barbie doll minions." Ava pointed out, shaking her head disapprovingly.
Ava pointed to the one on the left. She had the shortest hair of the bunch, even though it was just past her shoulders. She had the iciest blue eyes you could ever imagine - the sort that could peer straight through your soul. She was wearing blue, obviously to make her eyes pop, and boy did it make them pop. Her cold glare gave me shivers.
"That's Jane Gregory. She's constantly after the boys. Name any place in the school and I'll bet she's made out with someone there. She even made out with a boy near the dumpsters once. Crazy, I know."
Ava then pointed to the one on the right. She had quite a sweet looking face. Her brown eyes held such innocence and her heart shaped face would make a mother just want to go up and squeeze her cheeks. Something about her made me think that she was in her own world, or imagining herself walking on clouds judging by the way she walked.
"That's Jodie Robbins. She's not the brightest. If I had to pick one of the group that wasn't so bad, it would have to be Jodie, but she's impossible to hold a conversation with! You state one thing and all of a sudden it's 'oh my gosh, did you know that mice are like...little rats?!'" Ava spoke, finishing it off with a really dumb girly voice which made me giggle.
Ava then pointed to the girl in the middle. I have to admit, she was beautiful. She had long cascading golden hair and glistening green eyes. Her eyes held a mischievous glint, but something behind them said 'you can try to get me, but I'm way out of your league'. She was dressed in white, giving her that whole angel-like look.
"Angel? Pfft, yeah right."
Wait how the heck did Ava know what I was thinking.
"That is Jessica Grey. You want to stay away from her, Cheyenne. She's bad news."
"But Regina seems really swe- I mean...sorry..." I coughed, awkwardly.
"Yeah, well you go Glenn Coco." Ava replied, making me laugh.
I watched the girls as they strutted their way through the halls. Who did they think they were.
And there he was. The stereotypical quarterback boyfriend stood at the end of the hall with his friends. He turned as Jessica came near and she immediately attacked him in a clearly attention-seeking kiss. I hated boys like that. You know, the ones that think they're so good because their girlfriends a cheerleader and they're the quarterback and wow, am I just describing Finn Hudson here?
"And that, Cheyenne.."
Ava turned to me, a cheeky grin on her face.
"Is one of your track team mates."
My eyes widened. My jaw dropped. Part of me was surprised he wasn't a quarterback, but the other part was dreading track tryouts. With idiots like that around the team, this year was going to be hell.
