~Iris' POV~
Later the next night, Luke and I both found ourselves awake and incredibly bored as we sat in the living room. The TV was on while the lights in the cabin remained off, the light from the TV flashing across the room, but neither of us paid attention to the TV. There wasn't anything good on, anyways.
The both of us sat beside one another, surprisingly enough, in complete silence. I was playing a game on my phone, very unamusedly, while Luke was just looking up at the ceiling in a very bored way. "Can we do something?" Luke whined, turning his head to look over at me. I raised a brow, hesitantly shutting off my phone. "Such as?" I asked, looking over at him. He hummed in thought, biting his cheek. "Maybe just...asking each other questions?" He suggested hesitantly. After a short moment of contemplation, I nodded my head. It wasn't as if I had anything better to do. Besides, how bad could it really be? "You can ask first." I decided.
He sat up, turning to face me. "Okay.." He hummed, staring at me in thought. I assumed he didn't know what he wanted to ask me yet. Then, he spoke. "How about you tell me your most embarrassing memory?" He suggested, raising a brow. I flushed red, not at all liking the idea of Luke knowing my most embarrassing memory. Who knows what he could do with that? "Do I have to?" I pouted. He smiled, nodding. "I'd like it if you would." He said, staring at me while he waited.
I sighed and nodded. "It was when I first started my period." I said, sighing. I'd only ever told Cassie this story, and my mom obviously knew, but that was it. I didn't find periods embarrassing whatsoever, but the circumstances where I'd started mine had completely embarrassed the hell out of me.
"I was in fifth grade and the day I started my period was the day we were having a multicultural day. We basically had to walk around the whole school for the entire day and learn about other cultures, so we weren't allowed to sit down anywhere. Anyways, I'd been having cramps that morning and I didn't know it was cramps, so I just thought I was having a stomach ache. When we took a bathroom break, I went in and..." I trailed off uncomfortably, feeling like Luke was staring into my soul as I spoke.
"And there was so much blood that I'd completely bled through the back of my pants. I got sent home early after two girls helped me, which was so sweet because I hardly knew them." I said, smiling to myself at the thought of them. Autumn and Audrey, the two girls, had both really saved me that day. Autumn had been the one who came up to me after I left the bathroom and told me she knew I'd started my period, and then Audrey had brought me to the nurse and gave me a pad. They were both very nice.
"I was really embarrassed, though, because I'd been walking around for about five hours and nobody ever thought to say that I had blood on the back on my pants." I explained, shaking my head. That had completely mortified me.
He chuckled, as if he actually found it funny. "That sucks." He hummed, causing me to nod. "You're telling me. But anyways, it's my turn to ask." I said, shuffling in thought. I wasn't sure what I could ask him. "Why do you hate me?" I asked. I had always wanted an answer to that question, but I'd never had the chance to actually get one. It seemed like this was the perfect time.
"Because you're..." He started to say, but then he trailed off, like he didn't have something to say. I stared at him expectantly, cocking my head to the side. "I don't know." He admitted eventually, rolling his eyes. I frowned, very underwhelmed with that response. He didn't even have a reason for hating me? "You d-don't know?" I repeated, a little upset. "Am I so bad that you just hate me to hate me?" I wondered, furrowing my brows. I knew I could be a bitch sometimes, but he'd always been the one who started our arguments. He was meaner to me than I was to him, too. I thought we could've maybe gotten along had he not been so mean to me when we first spoke.
