Chapter 21| Columbus, Alabama

We drove back from the run, Carl and I didn't say a word to each other. I jumped out and set the bag on the table then I headed off to my cell. Garrett was in there bouncing a bounce ball.

"Where did ya get that?" I asked as I started to put things in my bag, I was determined to make it to Columbus. He didn't say anything.

"Why are ya mad." I asked even though I knew the answer.

"Reasons." He said.

I stopped packing and sat on the bed.

"You hated Carl, then you are all nice to him and stuff." Garrett said disgusted. I didn't even have to ask again.

"I never said I forgave Carl, he just stood up for me that's all. He still killed Clarke." I said.

"I know I guess I'm jumping ahead a little." He said.

"A little?" I said as I started packing again.

"What are ya doing?" He asked.

"Leaving." I said.

He stopped bouncing the ball and let it fall.

"I thought we agreed that we would give it a day!" He said.

"I know, but you said that." I said.

"JD," he whined.

"I can't stand it here." I said.

"What about, Nikki, Daryl, Rick, Beth, Maggie, Glenn, everyone here?" He asked.

"Your leaving Daryl, after having fits about him leaving you?!"

"Give him a taste of his own medicine." I shrugged.

"JD."

"I might come back." I said shrugging again.

"Might! You don't even know if they are alive, if that place is safe!" He said getting louder.

"Shut up," I said as I zipped up to he bag and left it by the bed.

"So you coming or not?" I asked.

He rolled his eyes and started packing.

*********

"Ready?" I asked him.

"Ready as I'll ever be." He said as he pulled his bag higher on his shoulder.

It was dark and everyone was asleep except for whoever was on watch. We slipped out the door with ease. We walked down the road to the main gates.

"So how are we gonna get past?" Garrett whispered.

"Follow me." I said and turned.

I headed for the hole Glenn cut in the fence a while back, some one else I'm guessing Daryl came and put a lot more wire on it. It took me a few minutes to get it undone and then we climbed back threw. I didn't bother to do it all the way back up just enough to keep the freaks out. Then we ran in the direction. Columbus, Alabama was.
We walked without sleeping for two days, then sleep for three hours and walking again. We have been trying to find a vehicle. All I could hear was the crunch of the leaves and sticks that littered the forest floor. I wondered everyday if anybody back at the prison cared I'm sure Daryl had a freak out but Rick would keep him from going anywhere. Nikki and Beth would probably be sad but they could get over it. I walked a few more feet, before stopping and leaning on a tree feeling the water hit my face as it started to rain.

"Are you ok?" Garrett asked.

"Ya I'm fine." I said going back to walking.

My stomach was in knots and felt like I was on a roller coaster. I bent over and puked. Garrett held my hair back.

"Your not alright." He said.

"I'm fine how much father?" I asked.

He held out a map.

"About this much." He said holding his fingers up with a 1 and a half inch between. I hit him lightly.

"Really?" I asked as a smile crept on my face.

He chuckled.

"About 60 miles."

I groaned why couldn't Alabama be closer.

"Hey you wanted to come." He said as we started walking again.

"I know." I said.

"Do ya want to go back now?" He asked.

"No, I need to find Dustin and Nicole." I said.

"What if they aren't there, what if everyone at there camp is dead the whole house thing they had set up gone." He said.

"That's if what if they are alive, what if they have a lot of people in there group is alive, what if the house thing is still standing." I said.

"Whatever." He said.

I leaned over and threw up again. My throat burned.

"See look your sick." He said holding back my hair again.

"I'm fine."I said, as it started to rain harder.

"JD your crazy." He said.

"That's why ya love me uh?" I asked.

He shrugged.

"I came with ya to save your sorry ass." He said.

"Watch your language." I warned giggling a bit.

I felt weak but I couldn't fall, my stomach felt like I was getting stabbed multiply times, I leaned over and puked again not like there was much to puke up I haven't eaten in days.

"JD, I'm really getting worried about you." He said.

"I fine, look there's a road." I said pointing ahead of me.

The harder it rained the weaker my legs felt. Pretty soon the ground was in front of me and Garrett at my side.

"Damn it, JD I told ya." He said scooping me up in his arms.

He carried me up on the road and he started walking towards the prison. I was gonna fight him and tell him I had to find Nicole and Dustin. But I was weak, wet, cold, hungry, maybe it was a bad idea to leave the prison now we are gonna die and never see Daryl or Nikki, Beth or even Carl again. I was falling into a deep sleep then waking up to Garrett running. I didn't know why he was running but I let myself fall asleep again, only waking up to the ground and staring up at the leaves on a tree. I tried to yell but nothing came out. I heard moans getting closer than some gunshots. Pretty soon I was back in Garrett's arms, they felt save even if walkers were chasing us. He really cared for me or else he would of left me a long time ago. Everything was cloudy and I couldn't tell if things where real are not. I heard a engine. I tried to say his name again but I couldn't nothing came out, I tried moving and getting him to stop but I couldn't. I tried to open my eyes I couldn't. I the heard a car pull up to us and some body yelled.

"Get in!"

Then I couldn't hear anything. Everything went black. I couldn't see, hear, move, or even feel. Nothing.
