With the weather getting progressively warmer, people are going to start wearing clothes that will reveal more skin to the summer sun. And more skin means more scars.

I've seen and met so many people ashamed of their scars. The scar above is only part of mine. It is about as long as a pencil and runs from my clavicle down to the middle of my ribs, smack in the center of my chest were the doctors cut through my sternum. This scar I got in open heart surgery. I am slowly learning not to be ashamed of it. Yes, people stare, but I try not to let it bother me.

And your scars shouldn't bother you. They are a testament. A physical reminder of your story. Proof that you powered through. Whether your scars are self-inflicted, a slash on your skin from an old injury, a mark put on you by another, or a cut you felt you needed, DO NOT BE ASHAMED.

And this goes both ways. DO NOT MAKE OTHERS FEEL ASHAMED. Raise the scarred arms and scarred hearts and scarred legs higher, because they are proof that this person is brave. They powered through. They are still here today. Not all scars are recent, and not all will ever fade.

But you know what they all are?

SCARS ARE PROOF THAT HEALING CAN HAPPEN
