What I Wish Happened

Chapter Two

I wake up early despite the late hour I went to sleep, I press the button on my controller to raise the blinds. Once they are hidden away in the wall I notice the sun is about to rise. I climb out of bed and change into my running gear, I pick up my phone and see the message from Elijah again.

I feel a smile encroach on my lips as I read the words, the smile just becomes bigger and bigger. I've never really felt this way, I don't know if I like it just yet. I climb in my car and drive to the base of the Hollywood sign mountain, pretty much in silence other than the muffled radio creating some background music. I climb out and start off with walking, after a moment or two I begin jogging until I reach a slight run. As I reach the steepest part of the run my legs scream for me to stop and let my body collapse to the ground. As much as I want to I can't, I block out the sound of my screaming muscles and focus more on the vintage 'Mystery Man' playlist I have been listening to. By the time I reach the top, the sun is becoming full above the horizon. I give in and fall to the floor and watch the sunrise even higher.

Once it's high enough. I look at my phone for the time, '7:26,' It's time to go back, even though all I want is to stay in my safe space. I push myself off the ground, brushing the dust off my clothes, finding it extremely difficult to ignore the groaning of every muscle in my body. I start running down the mountain again, taking each step as carefully as possible to avoid falling over. As I come closer to the bottom of the mountain I see River leaning against the bonnet of his car which is parked to the right of mine, his legs are extended out in front of him with his ankles crossed, his eyes glued to his phone. There are smeared red lipstick around his lips, Meg sat in the passenger seat quietly on her phone. the edges of her lipstick smudged around her lips, I look down at my feet and giggle to myself slightly. I look at River, he's got a bottle of water under his arm, "Please say that's for me..." I'm forced to take exasperated breaths between each word. He chuckles to himself slightly as he pushes himself off the car and handing me the water bottle.

"I knew you'd be here. Mom and Dad are meeting us at Nobu in an hour can you be ready by then?" I nod trying to catch my breath. I walk to the driver side on my car and lean against it so I am able to completely concentrate on catching my breath. Taking a big gulp of my water, I look over at Meg, "Meggie, you're missing some lipstick, oh, look, it's on River's face." They both go bright red and turn to each other, I catch a hint of a smile on River's face before he hides it again and put a stern mask on. I climb back in and roll down my windows. "Vee, nice to see you still have a swoon-worthy personality, that makes all the boys fall for you immediately." I roll my eyes at River's rubbish sarcasm. I stick out my tongue before rolling up my window and waving goodbye to River and Meg as I drive home to get sorted. I watch River driving closely behind me.

I drive up towards the house and run up to my bedroom and through to my bathroom. I step under the shower head and let the water run down my skin, I run my exotic fruit scented shampoo through my hair and let the scent filled my nose. I quickly wash it out again before finishing in the shower and climbing out, I get dressed into blue jeans, a black bandeau top, and brown pleather jacket and I glide my heeled black thigh high boots up my leg. I dry my hair and do basic makeup before I grab my car keys with an oversized black pom-pom keyring. I run downstairs into the kitchen and bump into Meg and River in an intense make-out session, with her sat on the island and River stood between her legs, her dress had risen up her leg so I could see the stitching of her underwear. I fake a cough to alert them of my presence. River shoots his body back landing of the refrigerator and Meg jumps down straightening her dress out so it reaches her knees again. I walk to River and gesture for him to move out the way before I take a bottle of water and walk out towards my black range rover. I climb in and see River and Meg climb into River's bright yellow Lambo Meg's cheeks clearly red and River hiding his face from me. I giggle and drive off in the direction of the restaurant.

I climb out and see photographers that ignore my existence. I smirk to myself slightly as I walk into the building. I spot my parents from the small crowd drawn around them of people asking for autographs. I sit down between my parents and notice a man who looks about the same age as my parents. The crowd quite quickly dissipates. "You okay honey?" My mum's eyes glued to mine. I giggle to myself and nod. "Yeah, but you might want to get the kitchen island disinfected." Mom and Dad sigh and shake their heads. "Were River and Meg going at it again?" I nod and giggle along with my parents. River arrives a few minutes later and takes a seat next to Dad and the man I slightly recognise. "So River... I hear you've had an eventful morning..." his eyes switch to me immediately as my Dad finishes his sentence. "I hate you." I wink and smile. "Love you too bro."

My parents giggle to themselves and turn to their friend. "Nova, River: this is your godfather, Sam." We smile and exchange small talk about school and relationships before a waiter comes over and whispers something into Sam's ear. "So, more to the reason for this lunch, I'm moving to LA with my two foster kids, Leonard Black-Wyatt and Lukas George. They are the same age as Nova and River actually, and I pulled some strings and they'll be going to your private school." We nod and awkwardly smile. Sam waves two boys over, one of which is the boy from the party last night. I look over to Mom and whisper in her ear. "I promised Alexis I'd met her at the mall in half an hour." She nods and winks at me.

I look over to Lukas and smile, he gives me a cocky smirk in return. He mouths the word 'you alright?' I got to introduce myself until Lukas, raises from his seat "I'm gonna go for a smoke if that's cool." Before anyone can answer he walks away. The other boy smirks to himself slightly. "Well, that was just plain rude." He says it in a sweet British accent. At the sound of which I melt to slightly. Mom perks up slightly. "OMG, you're British!" He nods slightly embarrassed at my Mom's excitement. I nod to my Mom to let her know I'm leaving and she nods. "I have plans with my friend, but it was lovely to meet everyone." I look over at the British guy who smiles, "Now that's how you leave lunch politely." Everyone snickers to themselves slight. "Leonard do you need a lift anywhere or anything?" He cringes slightly as I say his name. "It's just Leo, but yes if that's okay, Nova." I swoon slightly as he says my name in his adorable accent.

He follows me out to my car. "Nice car!" I smile. "Thanks, my friend Alexis bought it for me for my birthday." I look over at me and his eyes bulge out his head slightly. "Jesus! I need better friends." I smile to myself. "I mean she an actress in an award-winning TV show, so she's not exactly strapped for cash." He smiles and nods slightly. We climb in and I turn on the Bluetooth. "Car. Call Lex." The car shows the three dots as it loads. 'Calling Lex.'

"Oh my god! Babe! I feel like crap! I am so hungover and to be honest I don't remember what happened after you disappeared." I smirk to myself as I look over a Leo who is doing the same. "Lex, are you at the Bev centre yet?"

"Yeah, just got here, I'm wearing sunglasses and a freaking beanie. I don't do beanie's its bad for my complexion. And people keep coming up to me asking for autographs REALLY loudly!" I giggle.

"Okay, I'm five minutes away."

"BE QUICK!"

I turn back to Leo and smile. "You want to come to the mall?" He smiles and nods. "Sure it could be an adventure."
