The wolf pup had howled when we had left for our own dinner, scratching at the door to follow us. It broke my heart. She was still down there, in the cold stables, surrounded by strange objects and strange horses, only the stable boys to pop their heads in on her. I shuffled on the matress. I couldn't sleep I was so worried about her. She would be so alone. I could picture her curled up in the straw, whimpering as she shivered. Flinching at every sound, terrified by the horses that were massive compared to her.
Chaol was awake too, unable to sleep. His fingers twisting in the ends of my hair, his face pressed into my neck. He was breathing heavy, as he always did when he got wrapped up about something that annoyed him. He was muttering to himself too, I couldn't make sense of it and wasn't going to ask him what it was.
Oh the poor wolf pup, with her adorable cute white tipped tail. I should have stayed with her, I had brought her here to the palace. It was cruel to just ditch her in a strange place. I jumped out of bed, Chaol whining as the cold air hit him. "Where are you going?" He asked sleepily.
I pulled on a pair of trousers and Chaol's jacket, buttoning it up around the neck. "I can't sleep with her outside, I'm just going to check on her."
Chaol cursed as I left.

I flopped back into the pillow, scratching an itch on my chest. The bed now miserably cold y/n was gone. I should be worrying about her playing with a wolf - the most renound animals for killing humans other than bears. It wasn't a puppy which she clearly didn't understand. You cannot house train a wolf, let alone control who and what it kills. All that rubbish Saskia had said about loyalty was bullshit, I had met travellers who had raised wolves from birth, saying they would never want another animal at their side ever. The whole group of travellers had become the wolf's dinner the moment they forgot to feed it.

I groaned, but that is not what I couldn't stop focusing my attention on. Today, when I had left y/n with the flea riddled pup, I had come back to a table overflowing with letters. More from Rowan threatening to come take y/n back to Cithrí if I do not let his letters get through to her, and him being very rude about my request for his blessing again. Some from Korgan, giving roughly the same message the hand writting so scribbly I had hardly managed to read my name on the envelope.
The one I couldn't stop worrying about was the one that had had the red wax seal on the back, the one from my father. It was written to Dorian, but he had forwarded it to me. He was coming to Rifthold for a business call with the king, and had requested to see me. After ten years he can't even be asked to write a letter to me! He has to ask Dorian's permission to see me. I balled my hands into fists. He would undoubtedly scowl at my new life, find every flaw to pick at, chip away at me until I did something stupid. Would he be impressed of me? Would he regret having abandoned me? He wouldn't, I don't know why I bothered wondering if he would.
He would hate y/n too! She wasn't exactly the type of woman my father liked, too loud, boisterous, and confident. He liked his women simple, weak and plain - easy to control. Whereas it was obvious from worlds away I had no control oved y/n, if anything she controlled me. Pulling on the thick rope of my love.

The door was kicked open and y/n walked in, the pup laid out in her arms, its eyes glossed over from the candle light outside. It surveyed the room, pottering over to the bed post as she set it down.
"Seriously?" I asked, propping myself up on my elbows. I wasn't surprised, I had know the wolf wouldn't be returned to the wild the moment she had picked it up.
She gathered up a few cloaks and then pulled the blanket off the bed, leaving me naked in the cold room. I hissed, grabbing onto the pillows. Who knows she could take them next! She sniffed the blanket, and then bundled them all up in the corner.
"Not in the bedroom." I whined. "Can't it go in the living room."
She tested out the small bed she had made. "Don't be mean Chaol, its only for one night." She picked the wolf pup up, like it was a puppy or kitten. Not a ferocious beast. She set it back down on the bed, pushing its paws back as it tried to follow her to our bed. She laughed as its small tail flicked up and down, its ears standing straight up to the ceiling as it sat down watching her with a cocked head.
It was fairly smiliar to the huskies Dorian kept in the private kennels.

Y/n grabbed a new blanket, stripped and crept back into my arms, pushing her back to my chest as she too watched the pup.
It was bigger than when I had found it in the woods, but then it had been bigger from the moment y/n had touched it. She seemed to have revived it, because it should be dead now, with or without her cloak to warm it. It could only be made sense of by magic. That was what I didn't understand about the king, he said all magic was evil, but yourname had used hers to save the pups life. Surely that wasn't evil, it was stupid, but not evil.

I sighed, pressing my nose into her neck, breathing in her scent that was now covered in wolf. I could see how much she loved the pup already, just from the way she looked at it. "Got any name ideas then?" I asked.
She heated up. "Shadow."
I chuckled at her quick reply. "You already named her didn't you?"
Y/n hummed in my hold. I pulled her into me close, wanting every inch of our skin to be touching.
The wolf was still staring at us like we were some bizarre act. Her ears flopped over to one side, her tail twitching. "She is going to have to sleep in the kennels, beacuse I cannot have sex with her watching us like that."
Y/n laughed, twisted in my arms, her beautiful eyes looking up into mine. "It's good to know what is first on your list of priorities."
I kissed her, pressing my hands into the matress either side of her head. Tremers running through me, down to my region. "Anything to do with you is on the top of my priority list."
I kissed down her neck, the skin was sweet in my mouth. I could feel the vibrating in her neck as she moaned, her hands trailing down my chest, towards where I needed her most.
The skin between my teeth came away with a blue bruise, I smirked triumphantly. A small grunt escaped me as she took hold of me down there, her red lips curling into a smile, as she moved her hand up and down. I latched my fingers to the smooth, hot skin of her inner tighs and pulled them apart.

There was a small yap, and the moment was lost. I flopped back into the bed besides y/n, cursing the stupid wolf mutt. "My point made, it goes in the kennels."
Y/n laughed, giving me one last kiss, before rolling back over so I could spoon her. "Goodnight Chaol." She whispered. "Goodnight Shadow."
I laughed, nestling down into her, completly forgetting that my father was on his way. "Goodnight princess."
