A light was by the doorway, held in it's bracket near where the guards were often positioned, it disappeared for a second and I knew Chaol was once again in his spot. He seemed to find comfort there, little did he know, that the power inside me found every chance to use its self, so now I could see anything that moved in the dark. From the little things like the rats to the tall muscular man I had killed.
The was a click, and the door was opened, hands lay on my body, I could see them, as well as the emerald eyes of my brother. "Rowan!" I gleamed, throwing my arms around him, holding him for dear life.
"Hello sis." He chuckled. "You are looking particularly beautiful tonight, is this dirt you've had put in your hair?"
I punched his shoulder smiling. Shadow, non the wiser to a sibling growled at Rowan, who looked at her amazed. "I heard you gained yourself a pet, I never thought it would be this big."
I ran my hands over her ears. "Shadow, quiet, Rowan is a friend." She calmed, and I sighed, it made her listen to me, like I was speaking wolf. I cupped my brothers face, overjoyed to see him.
And he was to see me, forever a grin on his face, and care in his eyes with a small pinch of anger as he saw the poor conditions I have been living in.
"You wrote one letter." I accused him. "I wrote so many and you wrote one!"
Rowan frowned. "I wrote hundreds y/n, but Chaol wouldn't let you have them, it was you who wrote none."
We both turned to the captian, his heavy brown eyes watching us. He had betrayed me too? Lied to me?
"Why would he do that?" I asked, sick building up in my stomach.
Rowan sat down in the dirty straw bedding, the bucket wreaked from the aftermaths of another sedative overdose from late last night. He made sure to keep far away from it. "He said he wanted to marry you."
I knew Chaol was getting anxious at the amount I was staring at him. Marry me? I was well aware I was old for most unmarried women, but I didn't want marriage - fine maybe at some point but not soon, the world was out their waiting for me, I couldn't give it up for marriage. "So he blocked me off from you?"
I knew I would vomit if I looked at the captain any longer.
Rowan nodded, his dark hair looked to have been cut by gentle hands - Elena, she would be at Cithrí all alone looking after their daughter because of me and it. "Korgan and I tried to get past him, in everyway possible, Korgan was even saying about coming down here."
I giggled, blushing. "How is Korgan?"
Rowan sighed, rolling his shoulders back. "He insisted on training with that weapon of his yesterday." He rubbed his thigh. "I have so many bruises."
I reached over and touched his hand, Rowan's skin glowed for a second and then stopped as I pulled away, shivering. There it was again. At least this time it hadn't killed someone. "Korgan is going to find you a trainer y/n, we were wrong to keep it hidden from you, so korgan is going to find someone in Eyllwe to help you control it."
I sighed, that was what I needed, a way to control it. Although at the moment, I just wanted it gone, I had no interest in training it, I wanted it gone so I could go back to normal. Forget that Chaol had lied to me, forget the Saskia was dead, and I could curl up in Chaol's bed again, his arms running around my waistline as he pressed small kisses to my neck. "When we will leave?" I forced the thought out, never again would Chaol do that, because I had killed him, and that I could never forget.
"Dawn. In two days time." Rowan replied. So soon! The captain, was looking down the hallway now, along the line of dungeons, his jaw well defined, his hair combed back by fingers - not mine - yet he still looked tired, as he had since I had stopped his heart.
I leant my head on his shoulder. "I'll be ready by then."
Rowan kissed my temple. "Good, now I will be back sis, but I need to get out of this riding gear and have to say hello to the king."
"He killed our father."
"Yes, unproven but yes." He sighed. "I still have to see him, its the polite thing to do."
He hugged me one last time and left, staring down Chaol. Who blocked the cell door as the king of Cithrí walked away. Chaol was watching me intensively, like I might explode with into the grim reaper again. "What did he say?"
I turned away from him. Why would he have lied to me about the letters? Just why? "He told me about the letters."
I heard the deep, uneasy breath leave Chaol. "And when will you return to Cithrí?"
I bit my lip, as a wet drip rolled down my cheek. "In two days time at dusk."
With that the captain, inevitably heart broken I was leaving him behind, locked the door and left.
I shut my eyes and thought back to the good times, when it had not existed, the lies had not existed and I could stare lovingly into his eyes for years.
