I lay on the bed, dangling my head over the edge, tossing small chunks of veil to Shadow who snatched them up greedily. It had become a game Saskia and I would play when we ran out of conversation, I would make Shadow sit with her mouth open and we would see who could get the most in.
I rolled my head to Saskia, she looked bizarre with her hair hanging vertically. "How did you end up in a woman's guild?" I asked her, tossing a large chunk into Shadow's mouth, I missed and the black wolf lept after it, guzling it down.
Saskia also threw her last piece, wiping her hand on a cloth before sitting back up to normal and pinching a cake from the plater we had ordered. "My father sent me there," she took a deep breath and began to explain."He wasn't a lord, but he was wealthy and viewed highly in the religious commity in our village. He had all my older sisters married off to religious suitors, but I made the mistake of sleeping with my husband - to - be's stable boy...." she trailed off persing her lips together, looking at me dead seriously. "We didn't used contraception of any sort in case someone found out, and I became pregnant."
I sighed, that was why she was so uptight on me drinking my horrible drink - not that I really had been for the past two times.
"Of course then everyone found out, and my father punished me by sending me to sisters."
I gulped, that was dreadful, just for having a child, at least I knew if I became pregnant now Chaol would either demand an abortion or beg me to marry him. He would never send me away. "What happened to the baby?"
She shrugged. "The sisters took my son from me, and now I have no idea where he is." She hung her head low, running a hand over her lower torso.
My blood boiled at the thought of her crying alone, weeping over her lost son. "How old were you?"
"Fourteen."
"Barstards." I cursed, balling my hands into fists. Shadow tensed up on the floor, jumping into my lap and licking my hands clean.
Saskia shook her head. "Thats the thing they weren't, they've cared for me and given me a better life style than my father or any of his suitors could ever give me."
I gulped, feeling guilty from having come from high standards of life, even thoigh it was considered scummy by the rich. "Well I think it's wrong, they should at least let you see him."
Saskia rolled off the bed, shaking it away. "I don't want to talk about it, can we get ready for the ball?"
I nodded, wiping my wolf saliva covere hands on my dress. "Yes, lets, and I need to stop eating cakes or I'll never fit in my dress."~~~
I had strict orders from the king that I was not to entertain y/n for tonight, I was to maintain my post and secure the room. The king has been weary of balls ever since y/n used the cover of one to break her brother out of jail.
I had left my post once already, slipping through the crowd over to where she stood, I had handed her and Saskia drinks, commenting on their fine dresses.
Not that I think y/n was interested in dancing away the night, she was currently sat at a round table non stop gossiping with Saskia, they're heads locked together, and the odd paper passing as y/n got Saskia to use her artistic skill to humour her.
I sighed as I trailed my eyes off of her, she wasn't wearing a dress anywhere near as exciting as the one she had worn for our night out. I can imagine she will have a hard time finding one to beat that, it had been so sexy, so revieling that little had been left to my imagination that entire dinner.
I focused on Dorian, who as ever was having to entertain a huge range of women, I was so glad that I wasn't a prince. It would bore me to death having to haddle and please so many ladies, which Dorian was of course a master at, it must explain why in the past he never had issues finding someone to warm his bed, whilst I had waited years for y/n.A lady, with sandy hair, and a lilac dress on walked over to me, her turquoise eyes gleaming with desire - trouble that is what she was going to cause.
"You will dance with me captain." She ordered, holding her hand out. I stared at the woman gob smacked, first of everyone in the palace knew I was with y/n, and no one would dare breach that line. But second, she had demanded, not asked, demanded!
"I am busy." Was all I could manage to come up with for an excuse, the lady who was unquestionably pretty moved closer, her low cut neck line suggesting more than a dance. "Is it not your job to please the kings guests?" She said, her voice nasally.
I looked to y/n, who was to busy to look my way, I sighed and took the woman's arm, following her to the dance floor.~~
Chaol must have been a fool to think I didn't notice, I spotted her the moment she went over to him. My heart blubbering a tad as he took her hand. I wished Shadow was with me now, I could set her on the woman, seperate them up.
He rested his hand dangerously low, his eyes baring into hers.
Saskia picked up my change in mood, following my line of sight. "What is he doing?" She hissed, grasping my hand in hers. "Bloody men." She cursed.
"Why did he say he can't dance with me? He's dancing with her?" I whispered more out of my own anger. He was lying, that's what he was doing, lying to me, and not even bothering to be subtle about hiding it.There was a cough behind us, and I turned to see the reassuring smile of the prince. "Dorian." I sighed relieved. I could never forget how kind Dorian had been to me back on the rooftop in Cithrí. He too looked over to Chaol, his jaw grinding shut. "Would you like to dance with me y/n?" He asked, extending me his hand. At that moment I didn't care how touchy Chaol thought Dorian was, or how jealous he got. I wanted him to be jealous, so I snatched the princes hand up, forgetting about Saskia's crush on the prince and let him whirl me onto the dance floor. Now I could feel Chaol's eyes on me. Glaring at me, as I twirled around with Dorian.
"Who is she?" I asked him, spinning in a circle as he held my hand above my head.
He picked food out of his teeth with his tongue, his mouth contorting into weird shapes. "I actually do not know, she is the niece of a lord but I'm not sure which one."
I frowned, Dorian normally knew everyone at a party. The girl laughed loudly in Chaol's arms, hers wrapped around his neck, a sickly smile that many would consider charming on her rosy face. I snarled like Shadow would be if she was here. Dorian, brushed back my hair. "Ignore them, I'll see he is beaten into shape later."
I laughed, staring into Dorian's sapphire eyes, they were certainly one of a kind, and as he comforted me whilst we danced I knew why so many girls fell for him. "Thank you Dorian. I think I will give him a beating too, just to get it into his thich skull."~~
I could not seem to shake this woman, I didn't know her name and she did not know mine, merely addressing me as captain all evening.
She laughed and flirted every time I tried to push her away.
I saw y/n give me a death stare, as she passed in the prince's arms. My cheeks heated up, I wanted to rip her away from him, stop his hands running over the body that belonged to me.
The girl in my arms stopped dancing, but would not remove her hands. "I've had a wonderful evening captain."
I pushed her hips away from mine. "Good, now if you could let me go...."
She leaned forwards on her tippy toes. "The best evening of my life." Suddenly, wet pillows pressed against my lips, hands running over my face. I paused in shock, unsure where to hold as my mind tried to catch up with my body.
She stopped kissing me, licking her lips. Luckily no one had noticed apart from the two beautiful eyes that watched me over Dorian's shoulder.A droplet of crystal clear water ran down her cheek, falling off her chin. Her hair flew behind her as she ran towards the doors. "Y/n!" I shouted, forcing my way through the crowd, the sandy haired woman cooing after me. "Y/n!" I shouted as she ran out the doors and down the corridor, only the whisp of her dress signalling she had turned right.
A finger jabbed in my face forcing me to halt on the spot. "You leave her alone!" Saskia hissed. She poked me in the chest sending me stumbling backwards. "You digust me!" Saskia spat on my shoes. I felt my chest shred, and his huge agression built up in my hands. I screamed throwing my fist into the solid wall, it bounced back, stinging and sore. I punched it again and again. What had I done?! Possibly ruined the only good thing in my life!! There was a loud crack and a pop. My fist mushed against the stone, my first two fingers shifting so they bent backwards. The skin around them, from the knuckle upwards was all tingly and red. I bit my lip, holding in another scream that coursed through my body.A hand rested on my shoulder but I shoved it away, wishing I could cut it off with my sword - it was Dorian. "You stay the fuck away from my girl!" I screamed at him, shoving and pounding against his chest. My vision so blurry I could barely make out his moving lips and caring eyes. "Chaol..." He whispered.
"No! No! No! No no no no!" I shouted, the air tearing through my chest, erupting from my broken heart. "She's my girl! She's mine!" I began to sob. "You keep your fucking spoilt hands off of her!"
"Chaol this isn't about me."
I spat on him now, cradling my two badly broken fingers. "No, no it isn't! Its about the woman I just lost! The one you've been trying to steal from me from the very beginning! So you stay away from her or I swear I will chop both your princling hands off!!"
I stormed past him, shoving my shoulder into his.
"Where are you going!?" Dorian cried after me, throwing his hands in the air.
"To work." I spat.
