Chaol had found the airport fascinating, and the plane ride too, then when we landed he thought it was incredible. I laughed, squeezing his hand under a blanket the entire time - we knew we would have to keep a lot of our relationship behind closed doors here. They weren't as accepting of heterosexuals like Chaol was used to, and I could tell he was struggling. Especially when he saw me struggling to get up some stairs with the heavy suitcase, but I wouldn't let him help me in case we were yelled at for being freaks.
We got a bus to the apartment, getting weird looks from other passengers, but we played the part of brother and sister well, and no one mentioned it.The bus dropped us off one apartment block down from mine. Eyes peeped from windows as we hauled the suitcases down the unkept road. One of us continuously having to upright a suitcase after an extremely large pothole.
"They're watching us." Chaol hissed in my ear, flicking around at the eyes of all shades watch us.
"They want to know if we have anything worth stealing."
Chaol frowned. "Your neighbours mug you?"
I shrugged. "They used to, but everyone is so close here that you learn where everyone lives. I would just go and demand it back."
He looked concerned, but didn't say a word, tugging on the suitcase harder.
I watched him, getting less and less excited to show him my beloved apartment the closer we got. "I bet you the lift is broken when we get inside."
Clearly my joke made no impact other than worrying Chaol more.
I opened the door and we piled in. The lift was broken, and I laughed. "What happened to that?" Chaol asked, staring into the black casam where the lift should be.
"Oh, it will be jammed further up."
"Shouldn't there be something stopping people going in there."
I shrugged. "Its always like that. Would be weird if they blocked it up. Plus no one has died yet."
Chaol's frown deepened. "How many floors up are you?"
"Just three. Stairs are this way. Come on."I opened the apartment door. "Prepare to be amazed." I joked and pushed if open, whizzing inside. It was just how I left it! Maybe a speck more dusty, but other than that it was entirely intact. My joy fell as I saw Chaol's face, he looked disgusted as he stepped inside, shutting the door behind him. "Its tiny."
"It was the best I could afford at the time. I was dish washing on less than minimum wage."
He stepped inside, peering from the living room into the kitchen, which was even smaller. "How old were you?"
"Eighteen. Hold on, I'll turn the electricity on." I raced off to the cupboard. I loved my apartment, it was the best thing I owned.
I came back beaming as I turned the lights on. Chaol was still standing there, taking it all in.
"Come see this."
I dragged him off into the bedroom. I stood at the head of the double bed, grinned and slammed my fist against the wall. I waited a second or two and then the banging came back, double the volume. "Shut the fuck up, you bloody youth can't leave me to die in peace!"
I laughed. "That's Julie. She's hilarious."
Chaol just frowned deeper, examining the bedroom, the whole floor space was taken up by the double bed and the chest of draws in the corner. "Is this your room?" He was looking at the posters on the wall now.
"Yes, but no. My brother and I shared this for a few years, but then he wanted a room to himself, because he felt left out at school. So I gave this up, and slept on the sofa. Then when he went off to university, I would sleep in here and give it back to him in the holidays."
Chaol looked around absolutely devastated.
"You don't like it do you?" I stepped closer to him.
He perked up, giving me one of his usual gorgeous smiles. "I love it." He reached out and grabbed my waist. "Just like I love you."
I pinched my lips, and wrapped my hands around his neck. "I need to show you the dos and the don'ts of this place, so you don't set it on fire."
Chaol's eyes went wide. "Umm, ok. That's reassuring."
I tugged his hair sharply. "Don't be so bloody rude! I'll give you to tour then I'll go grab take away from down the road."I lay in the double bed, Chaol's arm looped around my waist, and his bare chest pressed against my back. It was strange being in this bed again. The smell, the feel of the mattress around my body was exactly as I remembered it. It was weird with Chaol though, this used to be my dads bed. I had layed between them as a child after nightmares or thunderstorms. We had done christmases on this bed, birthday celebrations. My brother and I had both cried together in this bed, when we heard the news of the crash.
Chaol's arm tightened, and he pressed closer to me. "You need to sleep."
"So do you."
The planes roared outside, and then the shouting started next door.
"What is that?" Chaol said sitting up.
"Oh that must be Bella and her boyfriend. Can't believe they are still together."
I felt Chaol groaning as he lay back down and tucked his head into my neck. "This whole apartment is so nosey." He whispered.
I sat up brushing his arm off of me. I looked to the window, the street lights shone through the curtains, I brushed my hair into a ponytail and sighed.
"What's the matter?" Chaol asked, resting a hand on my leg.
"Am I the poorest girl you've ever slept with?"
"Y/n..." He groaned.
"I saw your face when you walked in here. You hate this place."
He sat up more. "Y/n..."
"I bet your exes were all super rich, and didn't live in shit holes like this place! I bet Ruby has like a frinking mansion, that you can't hear a single noise from, and can afford a car. In fact I bet she's never got public transport in her entire life...."
"Y/n!" Chaol finally spoke up, grabbing my face. "You are the poorest girl I have ever loved!"
I opened my mouth but he didn't let me continue. "Yes, Ruby has a huge house. In fact her house was so nice that I moved in with her. She thought my place was trash, and after her I was too embarrassed to ever take a woman back to my house. That is why I always took them to Dom's cliff top huts. I took you up there because I thought you might leave me when you saw the size of my house."
I bit my lip, and pressed back into him.
"When I saw your face when you walked into my house. It made my day, y/n. I'm sorry my first impression of this place upset you, but I know you love it. This apartment protected you through the harsh times. I will always love it for that."
I scrunched my eyes shut. I was the biggest fool in the world. "I'm sorry."
He hugged me, rolling me onto my back so he was hovered over me. "Don't mention it, I get it. Now I'm going to show the poorest girl I've ever loved that I really do love her and her apartment."
I grinned locking my fingers in his hair. "You do that."
He pressed his lips onto mine. We poured our love out, kissing and making out like there was no tomorrow. I leant up into him, and he supported me, holding me tight against him.
"Can we do it on the sofa?" I asked, pausing our intense make out session. "This used to be my dads bed is all."
Chaol smirked, picking up my legs and looping them around his waist. "I am going to make love to you all over this apartment." He lifted me up, and I let out a playful yelp, re-attaching our lips as he staggered us both out of the room.~~~
The next morning y/n was gone when Chaol woke up from their spot on the sofa. He pulled some clothes on and went into the kitchen. There wasn't much in the fridge, y/n had brought some yoghurts back yesterday when she went for the take away. Chaol leant on the countertop eating away at the yoghurt. Where was she? Visiting a friend? He prayed she hadn't gone to see Vikki alone. He went back through to the living room, only just noticing the paper on the arm rest. He frowned and picked it up.
There was an address, a bus number, a time. She wanted him to come and pick her up from wherever she had gone. He rubbed his brow, if she was sorting out Vikki alone he would explode. He had three hours until she wanted to meet him. He grabbed his laptop and searched up things to do. This was his holiday, he might as well enjoy it.Chaol got the bus earlier than the one y/n asked him for get. He got off at the stop, and stared around as the bus drove off. This was a nice part of the city than where her apartment was. There was a pub down the road, old styled houses, and on the opposite side to him was a small, historic looking church, surrounded by a large graveyard. He gulped, that was where she was. Chaol crossed the road, and pushed open the gate. He didn't have to wonder round the graveyard for long, before he found her.
She was knelt before two graves, dressed entirely in black, her hair falling down her shoulders helplessly. Chaol sighed, giving her the room she needed. She wiped her eyes, spoke softly and quietly to the two graves, both the exact same design. The shiny black with fine white carved words. Her shoulders slumped forwards, and she cried harder.
Chaol gulped, and stepped forwards. "Y/n?"
She looked to him, with red, puffy eyes. "You're early."
He nodded. "I didn't know you had come here."
She turned back to the graves, a bunch of flowers rested before each one. There was an air around her, one Chaol wanted to blow away, and pull her into his arms. "They died seven years ago today."
Chaol felt the agony pouring out of her. "I'm sorry."
"Don't bother. You didn't know them."
He rested his hand on her shoulder and she leant her head against him. Her hair was soft on his hands, and her cheeks wet. "Do you talk to them?" Chaol had an idea, he felt like an idiot for going through with it, but he did it. For her.
She nodded.
"Daniel and Jospeh."
"Danny and Joe!" She laughed. "No one called them by their full names."
"Oh no, I've made a bad first impression." Chaol tried to joke, luckily y/n laughed, looping her hands in with his.
"Danny and Joe, I want to thank you for having the most incredible daughter."
Y/n snorted.
"She's so funny, clever and beautiful. She may not have had the best life since you passed, but I promise from no on, I will spoil her rotten."
Y/n got up and pushed Chaol. "Shut up you weirdo."
He playfully shoved her back. "Don't ruin my moment."
Y/n jumped into him, resting her head against his neck. She was so cold as she curled round to look at the graves. "They would have loved you."
The wind blew through her hair, and it fell over Chaol's shoulder. He brushed it to the side. He would have loved to have meet them, even if he made a fool of himself.
"How long do you want to be?" Chaol whispered in her ear, taking a moment to absorb her smell.
"We can go." She sighed.
"Drinks at the pub down the road?" Chaol said, offering his arm to her.
"No, that place is a rip off, I know a corner shop we can go to."
Chaol frowned, but followed on.
