Far or Near?

Part Thirty-six

Devan's POV
Today was the day. It's today. 

"Devan, wake up bro." I recognized Collins' voice from the entrance of my room, my eyes still closed shut as if it would change the date today. 

"No," I groaned and rolled over to my right side. 

I heard my bed creak and felt it dip down by the end of it. "Bro, I know its hard for you but do it for the Keys!" Collins tried to cheer, but i guess he made a point. I have to put my family first before anyone. And it's not like Emma's gonna leave me. 

After a few more moments, I finally stood up and went downstairs to have breakfast.

"Come on Dev!" It was Collins. After we ate and took a bath, we used a couple of hours to go to our friends and acquaintances that we have made here in this place. In short, I had the chance to go to Emma again. 

But my parents knew this before I could even tell them, and I had to promise them that I will go to visit my other friends and not just Emma. 

Well, I guess I will.

After a few friends and store managers later, I was down to my last too houses; Emma's place and the flower shop near by it.  

"Hi Erin!" I greeted as I entered the store. Erin looked up from her place behind the cashier. "Oh hello darling!" She greets back and quickly made her way to me. I smiled, scanning the colorful store, looking for the right set of flowers. "What's the occasion this time?" She teases, watering some green and purple plants beside her. 

"Uh, something light? Like... farewell flowers or something?" Her face turned to me, her brow raised. "Are you going somewhere?" Erin asked, as she intently searched the place for the right flowers. "Yeah. Actually, I came by to say farewell to you and also to buy some flowers for sosmeone," I said,and that immedietly caught her attention. 

"Oh Devan,..." 

I then explained why and where I was going, talking about other things, mostly some advice from her. Erin was a nice lady and I just hope that she lives a long and wonderful life. She's a beauty. 

I tried to pay for the flowers, but she kept insisting that it was like her farewell gift to me. I sighed and let her be. "Once I visit again, Erin, I'll pay for the most expensive thing here," I playfully 'threatened'. She laughed and handed me the bouquet, saying, "Too bad for you that the most expensive thing here is me," I laughed at her. 

"Bye Erin!"

"Bye Devan!"

It's a perfect bright day, even if the sun is too hot for me. The sound of my shoes colliding with the hot pavement was heard, along with the wind and some of the trees, but no birds were heard chirping. The houses became very familiar to me; a sign that I was close to Emma's house. 

I wonder if I ever get to wake up with her in my arms in mornings like this, then the few minutes of peace and quiet will be ruined by the squeals and 'good mornings' coming from our children. 

It's just a thought. It's not actually... a dream. I don't know how to put it now. I sound like an idiot. At first i didn't want the thought of getting married but now here I am. What's wrong with me? 

As i was about to knock, I decided that I didn't want my presence to be known. I want to somehow surprise Emma. So I went inside, suprised that I didn't have to get my spare key since the door was unlocked. It was quiet, no human in sight. They must be upstairs. I clutched the flowers to my chest as I walk up the stairs. 

I was now standing in front of her door, my hand on the handle. But i didn't open it. Why? Because I hear voices inside. 

"No, we can't," it was a female's voice. Emma. 

"It's just one I promise," a male's voice. Who? 

Then there was silence. 

I turned the knob and swung the door open.

sike. i guess i wanted to leave a lil bit of suspense (???) even if your guys probably already know who it is :P just pretend to be shocked in the next chapter !!! 

also, wattpad isn't doing its thing where there will be these wavy red line underneath a mispelled word, and I tend to mispell a lot of words, so i am sorry !!!
