The next couple of weeks seemed to have dragged on for Alex, she was just too excited. Her and Nate made the rule that they should stop seeing each other a lot inside the school. It was a risk that someone would figure out before Nate told his superiors about a relationship. Alex had been a little frustrated that he would not do it right away. She did however understand why he was so cautious. She knew the longer he waited, the more he could tell if both of them were truly serious and if it was worth risking the rules.
The university had quite strict rules in regard to teachers and students in a relationship because of past incidents. None of the instructors were allowed to have a relationship with a student unless it happened before one of them started at the school. The rules stated that the person in the position of power would be put into a trial situation and a board would decide if it called for dismissal of employment or not. Most cases ended in termination of the instructor. Alex knew these rules before she had pursued Nate, but she did not care. She wanted him and now she had him.
Alex was just left to worry about Nate and the rules. She knew he had been cautious in the first place because of those rules and Tyler, but the latter was taken care of. She knew he would come around in the end, but she did not like waiting. She was not as nervous about him backing out, but she had this small sense of anxiety that never left her.
The fact that they did not get to spend much time together over these weeks made it hard for Alex. She had gotten what she wanted but was forced into a willing avoidance of the only person she actually wanted to be around, and she was not good at waiting.
Alex saw Nate as he had walked towards his vehicle. She ran to catch him as she so desperately needed to see him.
"Nate, I'm glad I–"
"Alex, we talked about not being seen together here."
"I know but–"
"Alex, I could lose my job."
"I know–"
"Okay then, I have to go."
Nate turned and got into his vehicle without even saying goodbye to Alex and she had felt devastated and angry. Her anger was justified, but when Alex felt angry it was not good for anyone.
