Alex walked away, not even bothering to shut her door on the way out. She went back to the school to find Nate and tell him maybe she was wrong about being safe. That she needed Nate with her to keep her safe. Not only would it pick up their relationship, but Nate would be forced to tell the Dean immediately about the relationship.
She found him speaking with another professor outside their offices. He leaned against the doorframe, he looked slightly uncomfortable. The other professor had a look of disappointment and looked to be almost scolding Nate. It was unclear to Alex what this colleague would have been scolding Nate about.
"Nate, can we talk."
"Uh, yeah. Actually, I need to talk to you too."
The other professor walked away but not before he gave the pair a disapproving glare.
"What was that about?"
"I told him about us."
"I see he does not approve."
"No, and I think he's right."
"Not everyone will– I'm sorry what?"
"Alex, he is one of the board members that will help decide my fate as a professor here if I continue on with whatever we are doing–"
"Whatever we are doing!?"
"Alex–"
"No, are you serious, now? Now? Of all the times you could choose to break up with me? Now is the time you choose?"
"We aren't really a couple Alex."
"I'm sorry!? Then what the hell are we!?"
"Well, now, we aren't anything."
"I was coming to ask for your help! Lucas is back and– you know what, never mind."
"You said he wouldn't hurt you."
"I don't know anymore."
"Regardless of our situation, this sounds like a job for the cops."
"Fine Nate."
"Alex, I still don't regret it."
"I do."
