Green and Yellow

Chapter Six

Hogsmeade was quiet. Most of the Hogwarts students had gathered in the Great Hall for a Christmas lunch, but Kara and Lena had better ideas.

They sat in the farthest corner, in a quiet and out-of-the-way booth. The pair sat opposite each other, unable to avoid staring into each other's wide eyes.

Kara picked up the large glass, engraved with diamond patterns, filled with Butterbeer; Her lips cupped the edge as she took a sip. Lena glanced back and forth between the table and the Hufflepuff. Once Kara had swallowed the sweet beverage, she carefully placed the glass in the centre of the wooden table.
"T-Try so-" She began, but her voice broke at the feel of Lena's leg swiftly touching hers. Her knees trembled, stiffening them. "Try some." She cleared her throat and repeated, sending an awkward smile in Lena's direction.

The Luthor didn't answer nor move; Instead, she focused on her posture; Carefully placing her elbows on the table and sliding her leg back, leaving it inches away from Kara's. The blonde slouched and gently pushed the glass closer to Lena, who stared down at it as if it were some unidentifiable elf. Kara couldn't help but giggle and encourage her, "Go on."

"...Okay." Lena quietly spoke.

Her hands slid across the dark table and rested on either side of the cold glass, cupping them around it. Kara watched her every movement eagerly. The girl lifted the cup to her red lips and took a tiny sip. She couldn't hold back the warm glow that emitted from her eyes and smile as the taste rushed along her tongue. "Mm." She let out accidentally, her cheeks turning rosey.

"You like it?" Kara widened her grin and lightly bounced in her seat for a moment when her friend nodded and took another sip. Kara felt like squealing with joy. She loved spending time with her new friend.

Friend.
Lena was her best friend, she thought.
Nothing more, nothing less. Right?

Lena's posture had slacked a little in the hour they had spent in Hogsmeade. It remained quiet. The large glass in the centre of the table was now empty. She stared across at the blue eyes that taunted her.
"I-I was wondering..." Lena spoke out rather quietly as usual.
"Yeah?" Kara eagerly responded, leaning forward slightly to hear her more clearly.
"Why did you come to find me? I mean- that morning. What made you... talk to me?"

Kara placed her chin in the palms of her hands, gazing in wonder at the raven-haired girl.
"Well..." she paused. "I-I guess I just wanted to... get to know you." Kara finished with a small smile, pleased with her answer. "Why'd you ask?" The blonde tilted her head and raised an eyebrow suddenly.

"Oh, well, I am a Luthor. Im not really used to the whole... friend thing." Lena emphasised the word 'friends' and gestured invisible quote marks with her fingers. Kara bent one arm forward and grasped hold of Lena's hand.

"I was also wondering something."

"You were?" Lena gulped and tried to even out her breathing as their grip tightened slightly.

"Yes." Kara stated. "I was wondering if you'd like to hang out with me over Christmas?"

Lena almost choked as she blurted out,
"Me? You? Christmas? I thought you-"

"I'm not leaving Hogwarts, no... I-I mean I was, but I thought maybe- maybe you'd want to hang around with me. When you told me you weren't leaving, I-I felt really bad and- I didn't want to leave you and- you can totally say no if you want to be alone. I totally get it, I know sometimes I can-"

"Ramble on?" Lena asked, raising an eyebrow with a soft smirk. A wave of confidence flushed through her body as she slowly placed her other hand over theirs. "Yes, I would love to."

Kara lowered her head and smiled, embarrassed a little, but overly excited and happy.
