"What do you mean there's been a mix-up? I specifically bought a private helicopter ride around Boston for my wife and I on New Years Eve. We're supposed to be picked up off the roof of the hotel where we're staying!" Jordan huffed as he paced back and forth across the fancy suite where we'd shared a romantic candlelit dinner and recounted our evening over glasses of champagne. To end the night, we were supposed to go on a helicopter ride to see the fireworks, but the plane still hadn't arrived and we hadn't heard anything from the pilot either. "No, I don't want a refund, this was my wife's Christmas gift!"
I softened as I got up from the table and made my way over to him. I gently wrapped my arms around his waist and he glanced down at me to mouth 'Sorry'.
I shook my head, "It's fine, J, really. We've got a great view from right here," I pointed over to the window that gave a stunning glimpse out at the Boston skyline and he sighed.
"My wife says it's fine, so I guess I'll take the refund...yeah...moving forward though, I think you should tell future patrons that schedules are subject to change and let them know way ahead of time. I could've made other arrangements if I'd known," Jordan muttered. "Well, thank you, I appreciate that...Happy New Year to you too." He let out an exasperated sigh. "He's giving us a refund and putting us down for a Valentine's Day flight, free of charge."
"Well, that's actually really nice of him, J."
"Except that it's 'subject to change', which basically means don't bank on it," he shook his head and rested his phone back onto the dining table before he turned to me. "I'll have to make it up to you somehow."
I wrapped my arms around him and lifted up on my toes to kiss him, "Right now just being here with you, is more than enough," I said gently. "I feel like with everything going on, we've hardly had any you and me time lately. It's nice to have you all to myself."
"Yeah?" Jordan asked and I nodded as he ran his hand up my back.
"Yeah," I kissed along his jawline. "Especially considering that pretty soon you're going to be gone."
"I've been trying not to think about that," he cupped the back of my neck and ran his fingers through my hair. "At first, I was so anxious to get back to work because I felt like I was moping around the house doing nothing, but then Nate came home and all this stuff with the play just spiraled and put us right back in the thick of things. Are you going to be alright here without me managing the kids and your case and everything?"
I buried my face in his chest as I suddenly decided that I didn't want to think about it either, "We'll adjust like always. Besides, Beth mentioned Danny might take her along for a tour stop or two and she thought I might could join."
"Of course you can join," Jordan nodded a little more enthusiastically. "I think you'll probably hate the bus after a couple of nights—it's nowhere near as fun as it was when we were younger, but I'd love to have you out on the road with me, baby."
I chuckled, "Well, it was never all that fun for me, you know. Riding a bus while pregnant with twins isn't exactly the most comfortable thing—I just liked being with you. Especially after you drank too much and I almost lost you. You scared me to death."
