❛❛One of the first conditions of happiness is that the link between man and nature shall not be broken❜❜
—Leo Tolstoy

"Don't ever touch me or I'll die!" halos pasigaw na saad ni Adella kay Max.

"Your name is Adella," kalmado sambit ni Max.

He don't have a choice though.

"Just like Sheena," mahinang bulong ng dalaga.

Pareho silang walang ideya sa nangyayari. Pareho silang natahimik.

"My name is Max, Maximus Santiago III to be exact. In case you want to know," pambabasag ni Max sa katahimikan.

"You're the first," mahinang sagot ng dalaga.

"First what?"

"First man who introduced his name to me?" di siguradong sagot naman ng dalaga.

"Except for your cousins right? You're a Blanco, you have many cousins."

"Yes I do, but I never met any of them," Adella smiled bitterly.

Agad na nagtaka si Max. How is that possible? Blanco's were close to each other especially that they are all living in one neighborhood.

"How is that possible?"

"I have SCID, I can't go outside."

"SCID?"

"A rare disease that makes me so weak, I can't live in a normal environment. It is fatal for me, anything can cause me death. Even a simple air or even your very own presence here inside my room."

"What the h---"

"Or even your cuss," putol nito sa mura ng binata.

Their conversation goes smoothly as if this is not the first time they talked to each other. They felt suddenly comfortable for each other. What more? They are last the last humans they know.

You were alone, left out in the cold
Clinging to the ruin of your broken home
Too lost and hurting to carry your load
We all need someone to hold

"Hindi ka nakalabas sa silid na ito?"

"Apparently, yes?"
