CHAPTER 4 : The brave one

"You gave this to me," she whispered while looking at the red bracelet.

"You're Ms. No feet?" I shrugged "You're Ms. Cancer!"

Then a cold breeze touches my skin like cold water pours into my head. I remember before this happens, back at the coffee shop, those words that she said. Those words that she is saying that she understands what is happening to me. It is now clear. I became selfish with my own pain that it blinds me. My eyes started to flood with tears and I can't even control it. All those thoughts are now coming back to me. Those thoughts of giving up and not fighting for my life, it hit me. It made me realized how coward I am. How selfish I am. Then my knees can no longer bare my weight. I fell on my knees crying. She holds me and hugs me so tight.

"I'm sorry." And that is the only words that came out in my mouth and for a while, I stay quiet.

Weeks had passed and my life as a freshman is not worth to remember. Bianca stops talking to me like she never met me and I actually made new friends but unfortunately they have the same fate as I have. Renz and Loise, they are also being bullied. Well, I can fight back but I decided not too because of the blackmails.

They are blackmailing Renz and Loise about a video the group of Bianca's brother had taken. If I interfere or fight back, they will spread the video and it will affect Loise scholarship. So since then the three of us stick to each other and let all the students bully us. I don't have any matters with Bianca's brother anymore but I feel bad about this couple and I know I am the only one they can speak too. And leaving them is the worst decision to do.

During our break time, I always head out at the running field to meet Loise. They are not at the same break, Renz and Loise. Renz is a junior student and Loise is a freshman like me. The junior high student had their lunch first before freshmen and unfortunately, the senior high student has the same break with us, freshman. So every time the bell rang I run as fast as I can so I can pick Loise in her room so we can avoid the senior bullies.

Renz and Loise are couples and I admit it, being part of their circle are quite awkward sometimes because mostly they have their own world when they started talking and sharing stuff but that is alright because sitting with them is a lot of fun. Anyway, Loise and I had the same break hour so I always make sure I'm with her because there are a lot of bullies who tease and make fun of her.

One time when I wasn't around because of my fever, the bullies make fun of her and surprisingly even her friends join the fun and they throw all her stuff at the ladies' comfort room. After that, I heard that Renz tried to fight back but it ended not quite nicely. The reasons are 1: Carl's group "Bianca's brother" are much larger in a group than Renz's 2: some of Renz friend back out and didn't even try to help him 3: Carl called some outsider to help them. So, in short, the fight is not fair.

So these days I will not let that happen again and decided to be with Loise at all times and be a loyal guard friend that she needed. Then we found this place. Where it is safer to stay. The running field or we call it corn field because before when our parents were still young, this running field was supposedly a corn field. They gather here before and help some farmers so that they can earn some extra money.

Now it is our turn to gather here and mark this us our territory. So we decided to make codes and rules when we are staying in order to keep out other students from finding this nice, safe, staying ground.

The reason we chose this to be our safe place is that 1: it is an open field and anyone tries to approach us, we will know because we can see them from distance. 2: It is Mr. Macalalad territory. Our P.E teacher and he is really nice to us. I remember sometimes he let us sneak inside his class at the afternoon session which is all about cooking and baking. So he sometimes let us stay there for the whole period and after that, he will give us some of the food his student cooked. In short Mr. Macalalad is an ally and we are safe in his field. And 3: Carl and Mr. Macalalad are not in good terms, 'More on hate to hate basis.' That is why the three of us chose to hang at the running field. But our group didn't stay small that long. It all changes after that incident.
