"You can't be serious," Kris burst out, "It was that close, and you didn't even tell me?"
"That's pretty much the idea," Dwayne wasn't above boasting right now, "Whatever we did, there was a chance of Spenser or someone catching up to us. So we had to put it somewhere they'd never look. The ditch at the side of the road was perfect. I mean, at first I wondered if we could just hide it in the ditch. But the broken leaves were too obvious, you could tell something had happened there. That's why we needed your car to hide it."
"Then how did you get it back? I'm sure they must have been watching the roads out there, for the next day or two at least."
"I could tell you the next bit of the story," Marco offered, "But I shouldn't have to, really. You should be able to figure that bit out on your own. You want a prize for missing the obvious twice? Or tell your version, and see if you can do it without giving us a reason to laugh at you."
"Come on guys," Destinee interrupted, "That's not fair. We're supposed to be piecing the story together so we all know everything, not teasing each other for things we didn't see. I want to know all the things that I don't remember. And, well," she nodded at the silent figure on the bed, "Maybe if she can hear us in there, this might give her a little extra motivation to break out and talk to us."
"No, it's good," Kris was up for a challenge, even if he wasn't so confident of spotting what he'd missed the first time around, "We want to all tell our stories anyway, so after I'm done you can tell me all the things I missed."
