The next weekend Leah and I attended a cast party for a teen show on VID-TEEN. I usually declined these networking events because I didn't feel like I fit in. I worried about what to say and how to act. Which character would I be? My confidence grew after my first modeling jobs and I did not care anymore about fitting in with these strangers. Leah's past work included sitcoms on all the major networks and a three-year role on a TZ drama. Her last show ended four years prior to meeting me, and she wanted to land another project badly. Leah needed to go to these events, but she did not want to go alone. My good luck with LA Models happened at the perfect time, and Leah convinced me to start attending these plastic parties with her.
Leah and I stood together drinking ginger ale talking to a young actress Carrie knew.
Stella Robson. thirteen, short blonde hair, smelled like bubble gum.
Stella just finished a film with John Depson. Stella also took classes at the YA Studio in the younger age group. She told us about her new film and asked about Carrie's new show. While we chatted, a casting director from the DIZ Channel came up to me to say, " Hello."
The gentleman looked familiar but I did not know from where.
He casually reminded me that I auditioned for him a few months ago. I remembered being either super nervous or extremely high for all my DIZ auditions.
"Travis, from DIZ."
"Hey, how are you?"
"I have new roles you should totally read for."
"Cool."
"Stop by my office."
I looked at Leah and told Travis that I would come in the following day.
"But you have that shoot tomorrow," Leah reminded me, smiling an evil grin. Bonnie to my Clyde.
I didn't have the Nylon shoot the following day, but Leah knew how to play the game.
"Oh yeah..." I replied, slowly, as if suddenly remembering my lines to the scene.
"What shoot ?" Travis asked eagerly.
"It's just this thing for Nylon magazine."
Travis handed me his card and I told him I'd try to stop by soon.
