Chapter 23: Signs

Kayla was humming to herself as she was walking back to her room after breakfast, when she heard someone shout her name.

She turned around to find the source of the voice and came face to face with a very flushed and out of breath Maya.

"Hey Maya! Um, why are you so out of breath?"

Bending over and holding onto her knees, Maya catches her breath before standing back up to answer Kayla.

"I've been looking everywhere for you. Are you busy today?"

Curious as to where this was going, Kayla answered
"No. It's actually one of my free days. What's up?"

"Good! Cause I need your help."

With that, Maya grabs Kayla's hand and drags her towards the stairs.

"Um, where are we going?"

"Shhhh! Tell you when we get there."

They climb down the stairs and stop at the arts and craft room door, where they did their crafts activity in. Maya pulls out a key and opens the door.

"Um, Maya?"

"Come on."

Kayla follows Maya inside and waits as Maya sticks her head out of the door to make sure no one's followed them, then shuts and locks the door.

"Okay....what's going on?"

"I'm doing it!"

"Doing what?"

"The plan!"

"What pl-"
Kayla starts to say before her eyes grow wide.

"No...really? When!"

"Today! Now are you going to help me or not?"

"Well, you kinda locked me in...."

"Right....great! They're almost done, help me with some touch ups and we can get this plan in motion!" Maya says in excitement.

As they walk to the back room, Kayla asks,
"So...who else is helping you?"

"Wondering if your boyfriend is around huh?" Maya asks with a smirk as she picks up one of the signs.

"He's not my boyfriend" Kayla mutters, which makes Maya chuckle

"Sure. Anyway he's helping me keep Morgan away till we're ready. Now, let's get to it. We don't have much time."

10 mins and it's a go!

Zach reads the text from Maya and grins, putting away his phone.

"Stop texting your girlfriend and let's go already! I'm hungry!" Morgan whines.

"She's not my girlfriend." Zach claims.

"Yet." Morgan adds and grins at him.

"Um...let's just go." Zach says as he leads the way to the cafeteria.

As they make their way down the corridor, Adele's 'Make You Feel My Love' starts to play.

"Hmmmm" Morgan says to herself.

"What was that?" Zach asks

"Oh nothing. Just this song. It's...nice."

"Oh. Yeah. Yeah, it is." But Zach knows that Maya picked it because it was actually Morgan's favourite song.

They continue to walk in silence until they reach the corridor that leads straight to the cafeteria.

They notice that there are handmade signs hanging from the ceiling, leading to the cafeteria.

"What is this?" Morgan asks in a bit of disgust

"Not sure, but let's see what they say." Zach suggests.

They stop at the first sign, made out of Macaroni and it says
'Hey you, yes you.'

They walk to the next and this one is covered in different sizes of the word lose, but the main words are a different color saying,
'Hear my soul speak: the very instant that I saw you, did my heart fly to your service.'

The next one is covered in glitter, which Morgan really really hated.

"I hate glitter." Morgan says with a shudder to no one in particular

The sign reads,
'She's beautiful, and therefore to be wooed; She is a woman, therefore to be won.'

"Hey Zach! This one sounds like something Leslie would say!"

"Hah! You're right! I wonder who these are for?"

Morgan shrugs and moves on to the next one.
This one covered in saw dust saying,
'Love is a spirit all compact of fire.'

She walks to the last one, a normal written sign saying 'I'm waiting inside.' with an arrow pointing into the cafeteria.

"I wonder if this person is still waiting in there." Morgan says to Zach but is met with silence.
She turns around and realizes that she's all alone now. Thinking that he already walked in, she takes the few steps forward and turns into the cafeteria.

What she sees when she turns isn't something she was expecting.
