It was Tuesday evening and Kayla was lying on her bed overthinking everything in life and getting upset because of it.

I need a distraction.

I can't keep getting sad.

What can I do.

Besides talking to myself.

When she thinks of something, she sits up and quickly gets ready.

She walks out of her room, closes the door and knocks on Zach's.

A few seconds later, he answers the door.

"Hey. What's up? Are you okay? Did something happen?"

He asks, seemingly getting more worried with each question. This makes Kayla smile wide.

"I'm fine. But would you meet me at that deck I showed you in about 30 minutes?"

"Sure. Why though?" Zach asks confused.

"Just be there!" Kayla shouts over her shoulder as she rushes off to get the things she'll need.

30 minutes later and Zach is walking out of the elevator and heading down the corridor to the small deck that Kayla had showed him on their first date.

He wasn't sure what to expect and what he saw surprised him. He stood by the doorway for a little bit, just to admire the scene before him.

Kayla was leaning against the railing with her arms stretched out and her hair blowing in the wind. The fairy lights that she hung around the railing, were casting a soft glow onto her and made her look like something out of a dream.

He takes a step towards her and Kayla turns to face him, having sensed someone's presence. Her face instantly lights up with a smile and he returns a shy one, as he walks to stand in front of her and look her over.

"Wow." he lets out.

"Hmmm?"

Realising that he said that out loud he starts to blush, but doesn't look away.

"I said wow. You look beautiful"

Now it was Kayla's turn to blush and giggle slightly.

"I'm not even wearing anything fancy." She says as she looks down at her outfit.

"It's not the clothes that make you beautiful Kayla." Zach says matter of factly looking into Kayla's eyes as she looks back.

They stand like that for awhile before Zach looks away and notices a picnic basket on top of a laid out blanket on the floor.

He looks questioningly at Kayla.

"What's all this?"

"Our second date." Kayla says as she grabs his hand and leads him to the blanket.

As Zach sits down and gets comfortable, Kayla starts pulling out containers of food, a flask with two cups and another fluffier blanket.

"I really don't know how your moms do it." Kayla says as she settles down.

"What do you mean?" Zach asks confused.

"They managed to convince someone to pack me all this food from tea today and make us some hot chocolate."

"My moms helped you?" Zach looks at Kayla wide-eyed

"Yeah...is that okay?" Kayla asks looking at Zach.

"Yeah. Yeah....I mean...yeah." He says still a little confused.

"Wait, they actually helped you?" He says still not believing it.

"Well, yeah. I wasn't even planning on getting help, but I bumped into them and they insisted that I let them help."

"They did?" Zach says as his shaking head falls into his palms, embarrassed.

"Hey, there's nothing to be embarrassed about. I think it's cool your moms care so much." Kayla says as she reaches over to pull his hands from his face.

"Plus, they really wanted your first ever second date to be amazing." Kayla says with a smug grin.

"Oh no!" Zach says mortified, face in hands once again.

This makes Kayla laugh and she tries to pry his hands away from his face. Once she successfully gets him to look at her she leans over and kisses his cheek. Before pulling away fully she says "Don't worry, I'll make sure this date and every date after is worth the wait."

Before Zach can say anything to that, Kayla is already popping lids off the containers and offering him some hot chocolate.

Zach's embarrassment aside, the rest of the date was spent chatting about what they remembered from the softball games they used to hang out at. By the end of it, all Zach could think about was if this was all the dates he'd ever be on for the rest of his life, he was happy.
