The next day, Zach actually slept in for the first time in years. He was usually up by 7am, but today he slept in till 10! He was shocked when he got up and checked the time, but was still happy.
He washed up and got dressed before checking his phone. He had about 50 text messages and 10 missed calls.
How in the world did I sleep through that?
Every single text and call were either from his Mama or his Mom. Both relaying basically the same message, if he didn't want to be disowned he needed to call them back, meet them and tell them everything about last night.
He thought about last night, about Kayla and it put a huge smile on his face as he left his room and made his way to one of the cafés for a cup of coffee. An hour later and Zach was with his moms, in the café he'd walked into for coffee, sitting in a corner by themselves.
"Sooooo? Tell us!" His Mama said excitedly.
"What do you want to know?" Zach asks leaning back in his chair.
"How was it?"
"Did she look pretty?"
"Did you remember to brush your teeth?"
"Did you wear that jacket we told you to?"
"How was dinner?"
"Was she okay with it?"
"Is she a burger and fries girl? Cause if she's not...we have a problem."
"Did she take the vanilla or chocolate?"
"Did-"Zach had to lean forward and put his hands up, asking them to stop for a minute.
"Woah woah woah! Guys, take a deep breath." They did.
"I don't even know what you asked. Can we go one at a time?"His moms looked at each other than back at him and at the same time they asked,
"Did you kiss her?"
"Did you kiss her?"That was not what Zach was expecting. The question made him blush which his moms took as a yes. Before he could stop them, they started squealing like teenage fan girls. He had to use his hands to cover their mouths to shut them up.
He looks directly into their eyes one at a time and slowly says,
"I. Did. Not. Kiss. Her.....yet."The look in his moms eyes were identical, they were disappointed. He removed his hands from their mouths and sat back in his seat.
"But why? Why didn't you kiss her?" His mom asked.
"Didn't seem right." He shrugs.
"Did you enjoy your date though?"
"Yeah. Yeah I did." Zach says with a dreamy look on his face.
"Did she?" His Mama asks
"Urm. I think so? She kissed me on the cheek before we said goodnight." Zach says thinking about it. This earns him another squeal from his moms. Shorter than before, but enough to make other customers look their way and for him to wince while covering his ears.
"You go girl!" Mama says.
"She didn't do it first you know." Zach mumbles to his moms.
"What was that honey? You're mumbling again." Mom half heartedly scolds.
"I kissed her on the cheek first." Zach says a little louder and clearer.
His moms stop moving, jaws slack with shock all over their faces. Seconds later they let out another squeal.
"Moms! Stop it. People are looking." Zach says slightly annoyed while embarrassingly looking around to smile an apology to everyone who turned to look.
"Oh honey! We're so proud!" Mom says with a huge grin on her face and her hand over his across the table.
"My baby's growing up." Mama says while letting a tear roll down her cheek.
"Mama, it's not a big deal. It's not like I kissed her on the lips." Zach mumbles again.
"Oh stop it. Let your Mama have her moment."
"Do you two want to hear the rest of it or was that all you cared about?"
"Ooo! Shut up and tell us!" Mama says suddenly forgetting about her tearful moment. So Zach tells them everything that happened and what they talked about but leaving private things out.
When they were satisfied with what he told them, they sent him on his way to meet up with his friends. They were all hanging out in the twins' room to play cards for the afternoon.
He knocked on the door and was let in by Shay.
"Hey guys! What's up?"
"Hey Zach!"
"Hey man!"
"Loser's here!"Earning Morgan an eye roll from Zach.
"What're you guys playing?"
"Go Fish. Sam any 5s?" Trey says nonchantly
"Cool. Cool. What'd you guys do last night?" Zach asks while taking a seat between Shay and Trey.
"Go fish. We hit the arcade for a bit then hung out here. Morgs any 7s?" Sam answers for them.
"Sounds like it was fun. Hey, did you guys invite Kayla?" Zach says while waiting for the current game to end so he could be dealt in.
Morgan reluctantly hands over her 7 to Sam.
"Yeah, she said she was busy with someone else so she couldn't make it. What do you want sis?""Any 2s? Hey, where were you last night? We went by your room and you weren't there." Morgan asks as she receives a 2 from Shay.
"I-uh-was on a date?" Zach says quietly.
Everyone stops playing and turns to look at him, shock all over their faces. Morgan breaks the silence.
"WHAT!?" She exclaims while accidentally throwing her cards in the air. "Whoops. But more importantly. WHAT!?"
"Yeah. Um. Date. Last night." Zach nervously says.
"With who?" Shay prods
"Um. Kayla?" Zach says so softly that no one can hear him.
"Speak up dude!" Sam says
"Kayla." He says a little louder this time.
"You went on a date with Kayla?" Shay asks to make sure she heard right.
Zach just nods.
"FINALLY!"
"YES! YOU OWE ME 10 BUCKS SAM!"
"EEEEEEEEEEEEEP!"
"DANG IT!"Zach just looks around at his friends confused and amused.
"I bet Sam that you'd take Kayla on a date before this cruise was over." Trey says."I clearly underestimated your balls to do so. Sorry." Sam says with a shrug.
"We've been trying to set you up with someone for years!" Morgan says
"And we thought Kayla was perfect! Looks like you had the same idea! Eeeeeeep!" Shay squeals out.
"Now tell us about it! How was it! What did you do?" Morgan demands.
So with the game long forgotten, Zach tells his friends about his date and they spend the rest of the day chilling and playing multiple card games.
