The name Nolan Sanford haunted me last night. I checked all the yearbooks from our school when I got up this morning. No one named Nolan Sanford went to our school. I searched the name on google, twitter, Facebook. No results. I was at a loss for what to do now. Rowan wasn't a bad girl. She was with me almost every second of every day. I thought I knew everything about her. I knew everyone she spoke to, everyone she was friends with. I plopped down onto my bed, trying to calm the headache brewing inside of my head. There was a knock at my door.
"Go away." I yelled.
My door opened despite my request. My mom peeked around the corner. I sighed and she walked into my room although she knew that I didn't want her around.
"I can't keep pretending like your fine," she said, her voice trailing off.
"Mom please, I don't need this right now." I snapped.
Tears came to her eyes and I groaned. My room didn't need any more tears shed in it. She turned around from me and leaned on my desk.
"Why are you looking up Rowan's uncle?" she asked, turning to face me confused.
I shot up staring at her realizing my laptop was open. Why did Rowan write her uncle's name on the note? There were more questions as soon as one question was answered. My mind was bombarded with things I wanted, needed to ask her but she would get suspicious. My mom already wanted to send me away to a shrink and if she found out about this... I would be sent away in a heartbeat.
"I was just wondering where he was living now. I heard Mrs. Oliver saying she would like to get back in touch with him. It is her brother." I lied.
Mom nodded and after a second of doubt on her face, she left my room. Relief coursed through my body as I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding in. Did Nolan have something to do with Rowan's death? Why would an uncle hurt his niece? I felt sick to my stomach. I should have let it go and believed it was a suicide. Now I was filled with all these questions that couldn't be answered.
