Lovie's POV

"Read the love poems on pages one and four by Friday, be able to discuss!" I smiled as my students began packing up their things.

"Can we have real talk Ms.Jones?" One of my male students Daquan asked. Class had ended way earlier than expected. Every time that happens I give them a chance to ask whatever real world questions they want.

"Well we have about 20 minutes, so yes we can." I smiled as the class shared some slight giggles. I sat on the edge of my desk and waited for silence.

"Remember the rules, no judging, nothing leaves this classroom, and if it gets too loud I will shut it down. Now what do you want to know?"

"Ms. Jones why are we talking about love? That whole subject is cancelled" My student Olivia whined, and the class agreed.

"Why is love cancelled?"

"Because nowadays boys don't care about that shit. They just tryna fuck!"

"We not fucking you tho." Daquan added.

"Aye, cool it. " I looked around the room to see my students sitting down, with looks of hopelessness on their faces.

"Is that really what y'all think about love?" The class nodded.

"Well that's exactly why we need to discuss this topic. Love has changed so much now, and it shouldn't, at least I believe so."

"Are you in love Ms.Jones?" Olivia smiled. The class ooed and awed. I smiled and replied "Yes, with God, with my job, and hopefully one day with someone."

"I can be that someone Ms.Jones, you bad!" Daquan spoke.

"Thank you but I think I'm too old for you." The class chuckled at him lightly. We continued our conversation about love for the last few minutes of class before we were interrupted by knocking at the door.

"Hello Ms.Jones, do you mind if the new assistant superintendent of curriculum sneaks a peak in?" The receptionist asked.

"Yeah sure, let him join in discussion." I smiled eyeing my class so they will behave.

He smiled "Here is one of our AP literature courses Mr.Simmons." I smiled as the tall man walked into the classroom.

"Hello everyone, I hope I'm not interrupting." He smiled and looked over at me.

His eyes got a little bit bigger, he was clearly surprised to see me "Hello Lovie." he smiled.

"Hello Daniel." I smiled. My class started snickering again.

"Ms.Jones, there go someone right there." Daquan whispered.

"Hush!" I mouthed towards him.

Daniel chuckled "Well let me not interrupt, have a good day everyone." The class nodded as he left the room.

"Daquan why would you say that?" I sighed.

"I was being honest Ms.Jones. He seem like a cool dude."

"Yeah, he fine too, and I didn't see a wedding ring." Olivia nodded. Shaking my head at their simple-mindedness, the bell rang.

"Well that's the bell, read the two poems and maybe we can have more real talk." I erased the chalkboard and prepared for the next class. I taught only two main courses, both literature just one AP and the other basic. Still it was exhausting. By the end of the school day I'm always ready to sleep.

Walking up to my car at the end of the day was always so hopeful. It was one step closer to my bed. I pushed my key button for it to unlock.

"Lovie!" I heard from behind me. Turning around quickly, I saw Daniel speed walking to my car.

"Hey Daniel, how are you?" I smiled. At the point due to our two random encounters I saw him as lowkey a friend now.

"Good, I didn't know you taught here." He responded taking some quick breaths to slow down his breathing.

Jokingly I said "I didn't know you were my boss." Which caused him to chuckle.

"I'm not your boss."

"You're superintendent of the school district."

"Assistant superintendent, I just got the position. Trying to make a difference in the district you know?"

"That's great Daniel." I smiled and he smiled back. "Thank you. Are you uhh, busy this weekend?"

"I have no plans, why?"

"I would love to uhh take you out to dinner, if you'd like?" Surprisingly thinking of what my class, I agreed.

"Sure, umm what's your number?" Handing him my phone, he typed it in.

"There you go, see you soon."

"Yeah." I smiled getting into my car and driving home.

Daniel's POV

"Ma it's Clover Heights not hill, and the school isn't that bad." I explained yet again to my mother on the phone.

"Why did you have to start with that school? It's the worse one."

"It needs the most improvement, I'd rather start with the tough stuff."

"All the kids look like grown people." Grabbing my brush, I went into my bathroom to fix the waves before I went to sleep.

"They can't help that ma, but I got to go."

"Okay talk to you later."

"Bye, love you." I hung up and sat my phone on the sink counter. I have myself a good skin check and started to brush my hair. My phone rang again, but this time it was an unknown number.

"Hello?"

"Hey is this Daniel?"

"Yeah, who this?"

"Lovie" I jumped at the shock that she called, dropping my brush in the sink.

"Oh hey!" I heard her giggle lightly through the phone.

"I just wanted to make sure you gave me the right number."

Chuckling at her remarks I responded "Why would I give you the wrong number?"

"I don't know, but I still wanted to check."

"Well, this is Daniel Simmons aka the guy you spilt tea over aka your boss." I joked.

"Okay good. Also, sorry for that again."

"Like I said you're perfectly fine."

"Okay well I have a class to prep for, see you this weekend?"

"See you this weekend. Have a good night Lovie."

"You too Daniel." I smiled and hung up.
