Lovie's POV
"Hey Ms.Jones, and Mr.Simmons." Daquan smiled standing in the doorway. He was in sweatpants, a hoodie, and slides.
"Daquan what are you doing here?" I asked.
"My car got towed." he answered. I looked at him for more explaining. "Okay and?" I added for more.
He took a deep breath, eyeing Daniel who was listening quietly. "I was living in my car."
I looked at Daniel who was just as shocked as I was. "What happened?"
"First, let's step inside real quick" Daniel interrupted holding my lower back. We sat in my living room. I took off my heels and made Daquan a cup of tea.
"I told you that my mom has been in and out of rehab, so I was living with my older brother. We got into some arguments so he kicked me out." Daquan explained.
"How long has this been going on?"
"For a few days now. I was at work when I heard the truck. I was able to grab my electronics and school stuff but they towed it." He sighed.
"Oh Daquan, I'm so sorry. How did you get here?"
"I lied and said you were my mom, and that I left my key. The landlord let me in." he smiled.
Daniel and I couldn't help but find that funny. "Smart, you can stay here for a little while, but then you need to make up with your brother."
"Thank you so much."
"Also, I have some clothes you can borrow." Daniel added.
"Thank you sir." Daniel nodded dapping him up.
"Yeah, settle down in the guest room. It's getting late so you should be going to sleep soon." I spoke pointing down the hall where the room was. Daquan agreed and made his way to the room. Once he got in the room Daniel let out a big sigh.
"Oh my gosh." I sighed, Daniel rubbed my back.
"I swear, stuff like this get me so angry man." he spoke.
"Thank you for giving him some of your clothes. That was really sweet of you."
Daniel shrugged it off. "I just want to help. He's just a kid."
"I know, he's stronger than I ever was."
"What do you mean by that?" he asked. Shrugging it off "I just mean that I couldn't imagine living like that. I had a mom and dad, and a home."
"I understand, it's just a reminder of how lucky you are."
"Yes, like it sucks because he has like no one."
"Well he got you, and you're really amazing." I smiled at his gesture. "Stop being so sweet Daniel."
"I was just being honest, you really care for these kids."
"I try, it's my job."
"You're great at it, and I think I should leave. I'll drop the clothes off tomorrow morning. Maybe we can all go and get brunch." Daniel stood up fixing his clothes and made his way to my door. It had to be around 11 or 12.
"I'd love that, and I'm sure Daquan would too."
"I would!" he yelled from down the hall. Daniel shook his head and pulled me in for a hug.
"Hope you have a good night, and I'll see you tomorrow." he spoke squeezing me tightly.
"Thank you and you too." Pulling away from the hug Daniel didn't let go. Pulling me back in for a small peck then increasing it to an actual kiss.
"Gon' head Ms.Jones!" Daquan yelled peaking around the corner.
"Go to sleep Daquan!"
Sunday
"Do rich people do brunch?" Daquan asked in the back of Daniel's car.
"What makes you think I'm rich?" Daniel chuckled.
"You're a superintendent."
"Assistant superintendent, I'm not rich man. I just work hard and a make a decent living because of that."Daniel answered.
"There are many people in today's society that work hard just to make ends meat. You're in your position today not just because of hard work but because of the opportunities you were privileged to get."
I looked at Daniel "He told you Daniel." I chuckled and so did Daquan.
"He is really smart Lovie, everything you said was right." Daniel smiled.
"You talk about me Ms.Jones?"
"Of course, I love you!" I smiled.
"She talks about you and another student named Olivia." Daniel added. Daquan nodded and started to laugh.
"Were you trying to hide a blush?" I gasped turning around to look at him.
"Nah it won't nothing like that. Olivia is cool though." he responded staring out the window.
"That's interesting because I hear that ya'll always argue." Daniel responded.
"I mean, you can't go through life having everyone agree with you, that's boring. I look forward to our arguments, it's my favorite part of the class." He smiled.
Daniel and I side-eyed each other trying not to react outrageously. "Well uh, we're here!" Daniel smiled, stepping out of the car to a small diner.
"Yay, let's eat!" I smiled running to the door.
Daniel made his way behind Lovie who was practically ready to seat herself "Uhh Mr.Simmons?" Daquan spoke walking on the sidewalk behind him. Daniel turned around to speak.
"What's up man?"
"I wasn't trying to be rude with what I said. I appreciate you helping me a lot, I'm just use to seeing the reality in things." Smiling lightly Daniel placed his hand on Daquan's shoulder.
"You're good man, you're so smart and that sense of reality you got will lead to you getting everything you ever wanted."
"I appreciate it."
