Lovie's POV
"I'm starting to think y'all only pay attention in class when it benefits you." I joked erasing the board, we had finished early yet again.
"Ms. Jones, I saw you got the superintendent's number yesterday!" Olivia started, the class began gasping.
"Well thanks for the PSA nosey. Yes, I got his number and we're having dinner this Friday."
"You gotta wear something nice, it's a date." Daquan added.
"Yeah but nothing too sexy, we don't want him getting any ideas." Olivia spoke.
"What's wrong with that? She's grown, they can have sex."Daquan answered
Smacking her teeth, Olivia's face rang of confusion "That's not okay to have sex on the first date, she barely knows him. You do that Ms.Jones?"
"That's not my taste personally." I responded. "But do you think it's okay?" I flipped it back to her.
"No, but nowadays sex is expected as soon as you like someone."
"Really?" I asked the class. They all nodded.
"Why is that?"
"Because it's not special anymore. Everyone has sex." Daquan shrugged.
"So it's not special because everyone does it? Then explain getting your drivers license or graduating high school?" I refuted.
"That's different Ms.Jones, it's sex."
Shrugging "okay, explain to me how it is different."
Smacking his teeth first Daquan responded "When you have sex for the first time, you're crossing this threshold from adolescence to adulthood. Normally that's suppose to happen when you have all the mental, physical, and emotional necessities to have sex. Nowadays, people don't care about the necessities and are diving straight in."
I smiled at Daquan's comment. It was moments like these that I admired teaching because I get to see beautiful minds like his. Before I could say anything the bell rang.
"We'll end it there, continue to read your poetry books!"
~
"Mom it was amazing, you would never expect Daquan to say something so eloquent!" I cooed.
"Well that's good, I'm happy you're happy. Are you coming to visit this Saturday?"
"Uhh, actually not this weekend. I'm going out to dinner."
"Dinner, with who?"
"Just a friend."
"Is that friend a guy?"
"Yes he is."
"Ohh yay! I can't wait to tell all the ladies at church that you have a guy friend!"
"Mom don't do that. It's not anything crazy, just dinner."
"That's how it all starts baby. I'm going to go and let you let your beauty rest."
"Alright mom, love you" hanging up my phone, I sat back on my laptop and continued to create tomorrow's lesson plan. I had about a good ten minutes of work done before my phone rang again.
"Hey Daniel."
"Hey Lovie, just had to make sure I had the right number." He joked.
Smiling on the other end "Very funny, how's your day been?"
"Good, I had to visit another school, I'm slowly making my rounds. How was yours?"
"Amazing actually, I got to see one of my students really shine today in class discussion."
"That's great! Let's hope we see more of that."
"Yeah one question, for this weekend, how should I dress?"
"Oh umm, however you want."he chuckled.
"Okay just asking, I didn't want to look crazy."
"I think that's literally impossible."
Rolling my eyes "Oh stop."
"I'm being honest, that face with those big brown eyes. You're something." I couldn't help but smile. I was actually blushing to be honest.
"That made you smile didn't it?" Daniel asked.
"Yeah, it did. I gotta finish this lesson plan, see you soon Daniel."
"Alright, see you soon Lovie." Hanging up all wide-eyed and happy, I got back to creating my lessons.
~
"Happy Friday guys!" I smiled.
"Are you excited for your date this weekend Ms.Jones?"
"Yes I am."
"Remember what we taught you. Keep it classy, no sex!" Olivia sternly reminded.
"Do whatever you want Ms.Jones. You never know, he may get you! You never know, he may have a condom in his pocket." Daquan responded.
"Thanks for the advice you two. But do ya'll have any other questions besides my personal life?"
"Nah not really, we like hearing about your life."
"My life isn't that interesting." I chuckled.
"But you're the only teacher that likes talking to us."
"Aww, I love ya'll too and if anything happens in my life that is intrumen.."
"Lovie Simmons?" the older white gentlemen asked at the door.
"Yes that's me" I responded hesitantly. He walked inside holding a vase of flowers. It wasn't just any bouquet of flowers, it had to be like three feet tall. The class were even gasping at the size.
"These are for you." he smiled placing them on my desk.
"Thank you!" I smiled as he left.
"Mr.Jones are those from Mr.Simmons?" Olivia asked.
Walking up to the bouquet, I grabbed the small card attached.
Lovie,
I can't wait to see you, here's just a token of my appreciation.
Best, Daniel
Smiling at the card, I continued on to the class conversation. "So uhh, any other questions for real talk?"
"Why you smiling so hard Ms.Jones?" Daquan smiled.
"I'm smiling at the gesture."
"Aww, you smitten Ms.Jones!" I smiled at the comment. "Okay you guys the bell will ring soon, get ready, have a good weekend!"
Just a little key that Daquan and Olivia are in the media!
