David and I sat in his Tesla, driving back home, in almost complete silence, except for the quiet sound of music in the background.
"Thank you," I said.
"For what," he asked looking over at me, pulling one leg up to his chest.
"For making me forget about everything for just a couple seconds. For making me live in the moment again."
"You know I would do that for you any day."
"I know Dave."
We get home and David helps me inside. We are immediately greeted by Nathalie chasing Max around the house.
"Everything okay," David asks, raising an eyebrow.
"No," Nathalie says, still chasing Max. "He has my makeup brush."
I laugh when Nathalie looks up and only has one eyebrow filled in.
"Go help her," I say to David, in between laughs.
"Fine," he says picking up Max and getting the chewed up makeup brush out of his mouth. "Good boy."
He puts down Max and gives the brush to Nathalie. She snatches it looks out of his hand and walks back to her room. I'm crying from laughing as the scene replays in my head on repeat. It wasn't long before tears of sadness started streaming down my face.
"Izzy," Dave says to me. I rush off to my room and lock the door. I sit down on the bed and put my head in my hands.
