I woke up the next morning and got in the shower. I had a meeting with my physical therapist to see if I could walk without crutches and start driving again. After showering I put on a tan halter bralette and a loose v-neck white shirt. I slipped on a pair of denim blue, high waisted skinny jeans and put on a tan cardigan. I slipped on a pair of white Vans and went into David's room, who was sleeping, no doubt.
"David," I screamed, jumping on top of him.
He groaned in slight pain as I giggled loudly.
"You better have a good fucking reason for waking me up this early in the morning," he said turning around so I was laying on his chest instead of his back.
"I need you take me to my physical therapist's office," I said looking up at him.
He groaned, turning over, making me move off of him.
"Fine," he sighed.
"Thank you," I said, standing up and grabbing my crutches to balance on. "I promise this is the last time you have to drive me anywhere and I can move back into my apartment, which I miss so much."
"Yeah," David said, slipping on shoes and sounding a little sad with a mixture of tiredness.
"What's wrong?"
"It's just that it was nice, having you here. It's gonna be kinda lonely without you here, is all."
"David," I sighed, sitting down next to him on the bed. "I'll be like twenty minutes away. You'll be fine. Plus you have Nathalie here, it won't be that lonely. And you always stop by my apartment whenever you see Dom. It's not like I'm leaving forever. I can come over whenever you want me to."
"It's just not gonna be the same," he said, looking at me.
"I know," I said, smiling sadly.
David dropped me off at my physical therapist's office and I let him come in with me. As we walked side by side I looked at him over at him.
"Come on," I said, nudging him lightly with my elbow. "Today is supposed to be a good day."
"Fine," he sighed, rolling his eyes. "Put you have to get me Chipotle later."
"Alright," I responded, giggling.
I sat in the waiting room with David. I looked over at him and he was bouncing his leg up and down as he was trying to stay awake. I took my hand in his, trying to calm him down.
"It's going to be alright, David," I reassured him. "I'll be able to drive again, so you won't have to take me everywhere."
"But you don't know if everything's going to go back to normal," he said, as he absentmindedly started rubbing circles on my hand with his thumb. "Something could be wrong."
"And if there is, I'll work three times as hard."
Soon enough I was called into my doctor's office and David followed me in, like a lost puppy.
After some examinations, the results were in.
"Well, Izzy," Dr. Smith started. "You don't have full ability back yet. But, you are getting there. A couple more weeks of physical therapy and you'll have full ability back."
"Am I able to drive," I questioned. "And will I be able live on my own again?"
"Yes," she responded. "And as long as your apartment building has an elevator, then you'll be fine."
"See," I said, looking at David. "Not all bad."
"But not all good either," he said back.
"Can I drive to Chipotle," I asked David, smiling up at him as we walked out of my doctor's office.
"Um, not in my Tesla," he retorted back.
