"Can I leave now?" Alyssa asked. She seemed to always ask that question when she was here.

"Not yet" the principal told her. "I wanted to ask you about Kara"

"What about her?"

"She's been back a couple of days now. Has she gone back to her old ways?"

"Why are you asking me this?" Alyssa asked. What did mean anyway by 'old ways'. Was he talking about Alison? Crossley walked towards Alyssa again, leaning against the desk. His dark eyes looked threatening.

"You know her the best. You're the only one she remains loyal to" Loyal? What was he talking about? Alyssa gave him a confused look, not saying thing. Suddenly, the same middle aged woman from earlier entered the office again with a worried look. "Please don't tell me..." Crossley began. The woman nodded and the principal sighed. "Alyssa, return to your class. Any worries or concerns you know where I'll be"

Alyssa exited the room behind the two adults who rushed out. She returned to her class and took a seat next to Kara. She scanned the classroom and noticed something wrong.

"Where's Alice?" she asked

"Sent home I think. She wasn't feeling well. According to Erica, Rose Victor and Justin Burns from her class have been sent home too. Maybe there's an illness going round."

Alyssa wondered who the fourth person was to be sent home. It was weird to her. Alice seemed completely fine earlier. Pushing it aside, Alyssa focused her attention to her teacher who continued their class.

"Are you alright Sarah?" Miss Adley asked with a concerned tone. The whole class turned to Sarah, slumped in her chair. Her head lay on her desk. For a few moments she stayed silent. Miss Adley walked over to her and placed her hand on her back. "Sarah?" Sarah raised her head meeting with Miss Adley's hazel eyes.

"I don't feel well Miss Adley" she said, barely getting the words out between her coughs.

"Okay, you can go to the school nurse" Miss Adley's face became worried and so did most of the students. "Alyssa, can you take Sarah to the school nurse please?"

"Sure" Alyssa stood , waiting for Sarah to approach before they walked together. Both Alyssa and Kara exchanged bewildered looks before Alyssa and Sarah left the classroom. They walked down the hallways where Principal Crossley stood dead ahead.

"Alyssa? Sarah? You guys as well? he said

"Just Sarah" Alyssa informed, her arm was wrapped around Sarah's back guiding her down the hallway. Sarah nodded slowly. Her energy seemed drained.

"Okay, I'll take Sarah. You can go back to class Alyssa" Alyssa walked away and entered her classroom once again. It wasn't only her who was confused. Throughout the day, teachers exchanged worried and concerned glances. At least 2 students would be sent to the school nurse each class.

Lunch arrived and the cafeteria seemed emptier. Because it was. Alyssa stared at the empty and shrunken tables. A dizziness arrived and the girl panicked. She continued to eat her sandwich, ignoring it completely.

"Alyssa, are you okay?" Erica asked, sitting opposite from her.

"Fine" Alyssa said, she stopped eating and dropped her sandwich.

"Come on Alyssa," Kara ordered, rising from her seat and grabbing both their bags. Alyssa stood with her friend's help and walked, taking tiny steps at a time, to the school nurse. The room was empty which was surprising. Many students had been sent home which might have explained the emptiness.

"Kara?" The school nurse looked shocked but it was hard to believe that she was confused. She'd seen so many sick kids today.

"It's Alyssa" Kara explained.

"Okay, Alyssa come sit over here" The school nurse directed her to the chair that leaned against the wall, near the door. Kara left, waving goodbye. Principal Crossley entered, looked at the school nurse and then to the sickly Alyssa. He crouched down near Alyssa and felt her forehead.

"She's like the others" he said. He rubbed his eyes and rose.

"Would you like me to call..."

"No, I'll do it" Crossley interrupted the nurse. "That's 39 students and 4 teachers now" He whispered but Alyssa could hear.

"Thirty...nine?" Alyssa said but her lack of energy caused her to slur.

"Don't worry about it Alyssa" Crossley placed his hand on her shoulder and exited the room. Alyssa slouched in her chair, wishing she could just go to sleep.
