As they pulled up, Derek attempted to smooth things over, but Alyssa was having none of it. Her stubbornness could be quite irritating if you were at the receiving end of it. The agent feared that Alyssa was one of the unfortunate people who fell into the wrong crowd and had taken a dislike to Kara. He climbed out the car, slammed the car door behind him, and joined Alyssa, who had already stormed inside. The girl rushed to her room, pushing the door with force, making the pictures on the wall rattle as the noise bounced of the walls. Derek let the girl cool off as he made a spaghetti dinner for them both. He called the girl to the dining room, where he placed the plates onto the table. Alyssa appeared, picked up her plate, and began to walk away.
"Ahh, back it up," Derek said. Alyssa walked back to the table, not saying a word. "Sit," he continued, pointing at the chair next to him. Alyssa rolled her eyes, sitting at the table. Morgan started eating, but Alyssa was twirling her fork.
"I'm not hungry. Can I go to my room?" She said, dropping her fork on the plate.
"No, you're not leaving this table until you eat your dinner," Morgan said firmly
"I said I'm not hungry," Alyssa answered louder
"We can stay here all night until you are then,"
Alyssa pulled a face at Derek, who continued to finish his meal while Alyssa continued to play with her food. He had finally finished and noticed that the girl hadn't taken a single bite. Alyssa was tough and stubborn but could be quite sensitive on the inside.
"You can save it for later, Alyssa," he said calmly, hoping for this ridiculousness to be over. He hated it when they fought. It always drove a wedge between them, and Kara was definitely a bad influence on the girl. Alyssa looked up with kind eyes for a second before returning to her agitated state. She dropped her fork on the plate, making that awful sound as she rushed out of his sight. Like the time before, the girl shut herself away in her room.
The next day, nothing changed. They still remained silent as both silently debated with themselves on what to say and if they should say it, but no one breathed a word. When Derek dropped Alyssa at her school, he still remained silent. Not even a goodbye or telling her to have a good day. Alyssa kept her mouth shut as well. The agent pulled out the parking lot like many of the other cars dropping off their kids, who often rolled their eyes and slammed the car door before their parents could say anything to them.
Morgan entered the elevator, pushing the button. The doors sealed and travelled upwards before opening once again at its destination. He stepped out and made his way towards his desk. JJ, who approached, noticed the agent's silence. Derek explained the incident when the blonde had asked.
"She'll see that you're looking out for her. She's a teenager so it'll take a while," JJ answered, trying to cheer him up, but it didn't work.
"We have a case," Hotch announced to the team at the top of the stairs before proceeding to the round table.
"I'll message Garcia to see if she'll look after Alyssa," Morgan informed JJ
"If it's alright, she can stay with Will," JJ offered
"You sure?"
"I'll have to call Will, but I'm sure he won't mind," JJ said. Morgan thanked her and took on her offer. He tried calling Alyssa, but she wasn't picking up, so he left a message instead. Maybe time away was what they needed. Time to cool off.
