Jason knew his uncle was probably in the potions room. As he left the infirmary, he turned right and followed the hallway. The walls were adorned with pictures of many night hunters before him. He saw a picture of his father standing with a sword in his hand. Jason sighed. He walked about ten more steps, and there was a steel door to his left. He stopped to knock on the door. He heard a voice that told him to come in. There were counters lining up the walls of the potion room. Shelves and cobbers filled with potion books, vials and ingredients.
"Hey."
A man with dark brown hair, and scruffy beard turned around. Looked a lot like Jason. He had a scar on his cheek, and that instead of a left foot, he had a peg leg. He stood in front of a large cauldron.
"Did you get your order of viper venom yet? I know you need it for one of your potions. "
Jason asked him casually.
"Since when do you care if my potion ingredients delivered?"
His uncle asked, sounding a little annoyed.
"I was just curious Uncle Brad."
His uncle sighed.
"If you really wanted to know, my hawk was supposed to have the venom delivered by Monday. But because of the storm they had this weekend, the order might be delayed for another week."
Jason saw that he was in a bad mood. He took a deep breath.
"Can I ask you something?"
Brad was brewing a green colored potion.
"What fatherly advice can I give you this time?"
He said. Jason almost couldn't take the smell of the vapor coming from Brad's cauldron. It smelled like Brussel sprouts and rotten milk.
"Keenan banned me temporarily from hunting."
His uncle shrugged.
"I can't imagine why he would do that."
He said sarcastically.
"Jeffrey wasn't there at dinner time last night, so I went to go look in the dormitories. He wasn't there either. When I came back outside I heard a scream in the woods. He was attacked by a dragon."
Jason paused to see if his uncle was going to say anything.
"Did you kill it?"
"After I blinded it, and I slashed it with my sword, it flew away. I brought Jeffrey back on my horse. And Keenan was angry that I left before he gave orders."
"I would be mad too, if I was him. "
He took a toothpick and put it between his teeth.
"I just wanted to make sure he was okay. He could of died if I hadn't arrived in time. "
Jason continued.
"Well why was he in the woods alone?"
Jason wasn't sure he wanted to him the whole story.
"He heard Keenan say to Tony that he was going to ban me permanently from hunting. So he wanted to come and tell me as fast as he could. "
"And he was dumb enough to use the path in the woods after dark."
Brad was adding an ingredient to the thick green substances. Jason didn't like it when his uncle was criticizing his friend, but he didn't want him to get mad.
"Can you talk to Keenan? You and dad were his best friends. I'm sure if you tried to persuade him..."
"You think I can stop him from banning you permanently? Jason, if he wanted to teach you a lesson, I won't be in the way of his decision. He is the commander after all. "
Jason sighed.
"I just wanted to be more like dad. You know, watching out for his friends..."
Brad rolled his eyes.
"What your dad did, got him killed alright!"
Jason decided not to push the subject.
"Do you mind passing me a vial of sour flask?"
Jason said pointing at a bottle with clear liquid in it.
"Are you even aloud to use this kind of potion? It's very strong stuff. It can knock someone out for days."
"Patrick asked me if I could get some for him."
Jason lied.
"Here. "
He gave the bottle to Jason.
"Tell Patrick that if he wanted to get his hands on a bottle of this stuff, he can come and get it himself."
