STEVE
"It's been twenty-three days since Thanos came to Earth." Rhodey reports.
"World Government is in pieces, the parts that are still working are trying to take a census. It looks like he did-" Nat pauses, taking a deep breath.
"He did exactly what he said he was going to do." She continues, "Thanos wiped out fifty percent of all living creatures."
I stare at the picture that flashes before me and Camille stares back at me. The picture only serves as a reminder of how much I miss her.
My heart feels as if someone had grabbed it and slammed it against the wall, causing it to shatter into a million different pieces, waiting for someone to fix it back together again.
There was only one person who could that and I don't even know if I'll ever get her back.
"Where is he now? Where?" Tony's voice breaks my train of thought, sitting in a wheelchair, still weak from his time stranded in space.
"We don't know." I answered, "He just opened a portal and walked through it."
Tony sighs before he stares off into a corner. I follow his gaze, before my eyes land on the God of Thunder. He sits in a corner, looking sullen. Honestly, none of us could blame him.
"What's wrong with him?" He asks.
"He's pissed, he thinks he failed." Rocket answers before I could, "Which, of course, he did, but there's a lot of that going around, ain't there?"
"Honestly, until this exact second, I thought you were a build-a-bear." I shut my eyes, I could almost hear Cam's laugh in my head, even though she wasn't here.
"Maybe I am." Rocket replies with a sigh.
"We've been hunting Thanos for three weeks now." I get the topic back on track, "Deep space scans and satellites, and we got nothing."
"Tony, you fought him." I start to ask but is cut off.
"Who told you that? I didn't fight him. No," Tony says, "He wiped my face with a planet while the Bleecker street magician gave away the stone. That's what happened, there was no fight."
"Did he give you any clues," I continue, "Any coordinates?"
"Pfft, I saw this coming a few years ago." Tony says, "I had a vision. Didn't want to believe it, thought I was dreaming."
I let out a heavy sigh, "Tony, I'm going to need you to focus."
"And I needed you. As in past tense." Tony says, something in him seems to snap. "That trumps what you need. It's too late buddy, sorry."
He sighs in frustration, "You know what I need? I need a shave." He says, getting up from his seat and pushing things off the table, making it clatter.
Everyone in the room winces at the noise as he rips the needle connected to the drip out of his arm, prompting Rhodey to quickly steps in.
"Tony. Tony, stop." Rhodey tries his best to calm him down.
"And I believe telling you, why that what we needed was a suit of armour around the world. Remember that?" He continues, "Whether it impacted our precious freedom or not, that was what we needed."
