It’s 6 in the evening. Thirj went home early. He’s been doing this for the past days. Hospital work has been tiring and demanding. Bilang doctor, he is 24 hours on call. He is also a father kaya hanggat may oras pa sya ay ilalaan niya ito sa anak niya. He’s a family guys after all.
“Daddy!” sigaw ni Reese habang tumatakbo saka yumakap.
“I’m home baby,”
She kissed him on his cheeks and looked around, “where’s Mom?”
“Late night work,” he smiled at her. Ilang araw nang ginagabi ng uwi si Saab at maaga rin itong umaalis puna niya. He must tak to her to settle things. Baka pati si Reese ay maaapektohan na.
Dinala nya sa hapagkainan ang anak at pinaupo sa tabi nya. Mabuti na lang at may shower sa clinic niya kaya wala na syang problema pagdating ng bahay because he’s clean from all the hospital dirts. Lalo na masyadong mahilig maglambing si Reese sa kanya. She’s a daddy’s girl. After dinner, hinatid niya ito sa kanyang kwarto at binasahan ng kwento hanggan sa makatulog.
He went into their room. Maya-maya pa ay bumukas ang pinto ng kwarto. Kitang-kita niya ang pagkabigla ni Saab.
“I’ve been waiting for you,” bati nya.
“Yeah, uhm, got stuck in the traffic,” sinara niya ang pinto.
“I see,”
“Si Reese?” tanong ni Saab.
“Nasa kwarto nya. Natutulog,”
“Oh great,”
“Hinahanap ka nya,”
“Sorry ‘bout that. I’ve been busy,”
“I can see,”
“Yeah,” hinubad niya ang kanyang sapatos, “you?”
“Ako?” tanong ni Thirj habang naka upo sa couch sa tabi ng coffee table.
“Yeah how are you?” she asked while changing into her pajamas.
“I’m distracted, Isabelle,” sagot ni Thirj. Di niya nakikita ang mukha nito dahil nakatalikod siya sa lamp shade na tanging ilaw ng kwarto. “Can you please change inside?”
Napailing lang si Saab at sinuot ang oversized tshirt na pantulog niya, “tapos na akong magbihis,”
“I signed the papers,” tanging sagot ni Thirj sa kanya.
Walang masabi si Saab. Sumi-sink in pa lang sa kanya ang mga sinabi ni Thirj. He signed the papers. He signed the papers – the annulment papers. Huminga sya ng malalim, “I guess this is where we say goodbye then,” she tucked herself in bed, “good night Rafael,”
