"Brandon, Clarke is here." He heard his mother shouting from below the stairs. He wondered why Clarke was here, they hadn't spoken in weeks. He had missed her, but he had too many other things on his mind to try and fix things between them. Not to mention the other thing.
"Clarke?"
"Hey."
"Hey, why didn't you tell me you were coming over?"
"Sorry I figured I could just pop by. Is it not okay?" Why did she feel like she was walking on eggshells? Brandon had been so testy lately.
"No, it's fine." If it was fine, why did Brandon seem frustrated by it?
"You want to grab dinner or something?"
"I can't I'm sorry." Clarke was disappointed to say the least. She hadn't seen him in weeks because he had been so wrapped up with his football buddies. She hated the way he acted around them.
"Oh, why not?"
"I have a thing with the team." He had to be kidding. Clarke sighed and closed her eyes trying to not sound as snippy as she felt, but utterly failed.
"Of course, you do." The words were out of her mouth before she could filter them. Great, now they were probably going to fight. It was Brandon's turn to furrow his eyebrows. She had come over here, not the other way around. Why was she getting snippy with him expecting that he could drop everything and just go out with her? He knew her frustration with his team was justified, but he still didn't like the attitude she had given him. Clarke was important to him, but things were way too complicated for him to just drop everything for her.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"You're just at their beck and call, aren't you? Always choosing them over everyone else."
"It's just this time. I'll make it up to you." Clarke didn't believe him for even a second, hell he couldn't even believe himself.
"It is not just this time. You missed my birthday dinner which I told you about a month beforehand because I knew you were busy, but you missed it because your team wanted you to go to a pick-up game. A pick-game, like seriously? Then, I needed you when my dad and I got into a fight and you had another team thing. Not to mention the fact that your mom got in a car accident and you were nowhere to be found for hours. It's not just one time, it's all the damn time. Your parents notice, I notice, when will you? Maybe if your team wasn't so up your ass, you would understand."
"Are you freaking serious right now? Just because you're jealous doesn't mean you have to blow up on me." Brandon knew he was being unreasonable, but it was like he was watching himself behind a mirror. He couldn't stop the words coming out of his mouth even though he didn't mean them. His life constantly felt like he was on autopilot.
"Jealous, are you freaking serious right now? Do you even hear yourself? I'm not freaking jealous. You've just become such a douche that you can't even see what's going on around you. Why don't you pull your head out of your ass and get a clue?"
"I'm not your boyfriend I don't have to answer to you." Why couldn't he stop his mouth from moving? Why was he acting like this? She was right he was a douche.
"You're right you're not my boyfriend, you were just my best friend, but I guess that's not true anymore. Have a nice life and don't fucking talk to me."
"Don't have to worry about that." Clarke just scoffed and stomped right past his parents and out the door. She shouldn't have exploded like that, but he was being such a douche it was hard not to. He had been so wrapped up in himself lately that he didn't care to pay attention to what was going on in her life. She would give him a couple of days and she was sure he would apologize, like he always did. It was a shame that it never happened before he died the next day.
