For the past ten minutes Jack had been talking to his mom about what to do with Clarke. She couldn't go home because she could barely move, but his mom didn't want her to stay because of her reputation. He didn't blame her for feeling that way, but he had grown protective of Clarke and had yelled a protest at any mention of sending her home.

"Mom her parents haven't even checked in on her since she's been gone. You can't expect me to want to send her home."

"You just met her J, you're not responsible for her and if something happens in my home, I will be held responsible."

"Nothing is gonna happen. Mom please just let her stay here until she can at least stand up. It will only be a day or two."

"She leaves tomorrow morning and that's it."

"Okay thanks mom."

Clarke had been sleeping in the other room for about two hours and Jack couldn't sleep. His mind had been running around what had happened. What was he going to do? If he stayed friends with her then he could be in danger, but if he left her alone then she could be in danger too. He didn't know what to do.

"Hey." Jacks head flipped up to see Clarke leaning against the door frame to hold herself up.

"You shouldn't be out of bed." He rushed over to her and put one of her arms around his shoulder to guide her to the couch.

"Yeah well, you weren't in there and I got bored. For a knight in shining armor you sure are failing. Can you turn on the tv?"

"Hey, I saved your life, didn't I? I'll turn it on just give me a sec." The local news popped on and droned in the background while Jack went to go get some water for Clarke.

"You didn't save my life, your mom did." Clarke just rolled her eyes while Jack laughed.

"Local authorities found the body of Francis Kitger this morning at 7:54 on the side of the road near the high school. He was a local student on the football team and a very respected young man. Authorities say he was killed between 12-1 last night and have been searching for Clarke Holden for arrest all morning. There has yet to be any new information revealed thus far."

"Shit."

"Did they just say Francis Kitger? I just saw him at the diner last night."

"What was he doing at the diner?"

"Oh nothing big, only pouring a whole fucking glass of water on my head."

There was a knock on the door and when Jack went to get it there were four cops standing there. Clarke knew what was going to happen next and so she put her hands up and laid on the floor with her stomach flat and hands on her head. She didn't want them to do anything to Jack. They marched in with their weapons raised as one of them cuffed her. Jack couldn't help but to watch it all go down and not being able to do a thing about it.

"What are you even charging her for? Wait where are you taking her?" When they yanked her up Jack could see the pain in her eyes.

"It's okay Jack I didn't do anything. Just stay home."

"Be careful she's hurt." When he went to go pull on the police officers' shoulder, he pushed him down to the ground before pointing his firearm at him.

"Hey, stop it," Clarke yelled at them as she tried to squirm free to help Jack. They had no right to treat him that way.

"You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law." They continued to read her Miranda rights as they put her in the back of the squad car. Jack watched them take her away and had never felt so helpless.
