When Jack woke up the light was killing his eyes and he felt like a he had gotten run over by a bus. He groaned out in pain hoping to God that his mom wasn't home. When he turned to look at the clock, he realized it was already half past noon, and he was late for work. Edna was going to kill him. When he went to get up his pain only intensified, and he immediately regretted drinking at all last night. The he remembered what he did. He had kissed Clarke. Oh god. Not only had he called her in the middle of the night to pick him up, he then practically assaulted her. She was never going to speak to him again.

He had to text her and tell her he was sorry, but then that would sound like he only did it because he was drunk. It was kind of true, but it was also because he had wanted to kiss her even when he was sober. Why just why did he do this to himself? Maybe he should call her and ask to meet up, but he had to go to work. Then he could just call her and apologize. When he listened to the ring a couple of times, he got nervous and almost hung up, but when her voice message started, he didn't get a chance. What was he going to say, sorry I kissed you last night? No that was just lame.

"Uh hey Clarke I just woke up with the biggest hangover of my life. I was wondering what you were up to and if you were able to hang out later, just call me back when you get a chance, bye." He was so lame it almost hurt more than his hangover. He needed to get to work before Edna ripped his head off.

When he got there, she didn't say a word, just handed him his apron and continued to take orders. He was almost an hour late, what was wrong with her? The light from the windows was giving him a headache and he couldn't focus on what anyone was saying. When he asked one girl what her drink was four times in a row Edna noticed and came over.

"What's the problem hun?"

"Nothing ma'am he just keeps forgetting my drink order."

"Is that so, I'm sorry about that I'll handle your service from here on out okay?"

"Thank you can I have a sweet tea?"

"Of course, I'll be right out with it. Jack." He knew he was in trouble now by the tone in her voice.

"Sorry Edna."

"Don't be sorry, I shouldn't have even put on the schedule for today." When he finally looked up from his shoes, he saw the love in her eyes, the pity too.

"I can work I promise." He loved Edna, but he hated that look. He didn't want anyone's pity.

"No need, go home We're kind of slow today anyway."

"Are you sure?"

"Of course, hun, we got it from here. Go home and get some rest."

"Thanks Edna." He gave her a hug and then handed her his apron.

"No problem sweetie, but you better come to work tomorrow brand new."

"I can promise you that, I'm gonna go home and sleep for the whole day." She just chuckled and waved him goodbye.

When he looked at his phone Clarke still hadn't called or texted him, which was odd considering it was two and she was definitely awake. She had to have seen his call, which meant she was ignoring him. Great. Not only did he feel like crap and get sent home from work, but Clarke was also mad at him. This day really only could get better. The only thing he wanted to do was close all the blinds, turn the lights off, lay on the couch, and watch the tv on volume two. As soon as he turned the tv on though, life had other plans.
