         "I'll be there in about five minutes," she says.

         "Okay, thanks again," I say, and find myself smiling. "I can't wait to see you. I've been preparing for this all day."

         "You're insane. It's literally been less than twenty-four hours."

         "What, so I can't miss my beautiful, amazing, and beautifully amazing girlfriend?" 

         "Jesus Christ," she says, laughing slightly.

         "Alright, bye," I say, laughing, too.

         "Bye."

         There's a short pause.

         "Are you forgetting something?" she asks.

         "Oh, right," I say, nodding. "You're an idiot."

         "Hey!"

         "Alright, bye," I laugh. "Love you."

         "I love you too."

         I pull the phone away from my ear and hang up. I sit on the front steps beside Andrew like we'd been doing for the past ten minutes. I glance over at him and watch as he fidgets with a pebble in his hand.

         "You good?" I ask him, and he looks up at me like he forgot I was beside him.

         "I... yeah," he says, then nods. He lets out a soft sigh. "It's just that..."

         "Hey, you don't have to talk if you don't want to."

         "Do you... love me? Platonically, of course, but... do you?"

         "Of course I do," I say, furrowing my eyebrows slightly, then releasing them. I place a hand on his shoulder gently. "You're one of the best people I've ever met. Of course, I love you. I can't even imagine a life without you."

         "Do you know that... I love you?" he asks, even quieter than before.

         "Well, yeah, of course, I do. You're always so nice to me and so sweet. It'd be hard to believe you don't. And telling someone that you love them isn't the only way to show someone that you love them. There are so many different ways to. And I--"

         "Do you think that Aubrey loves me?" he asks, and I can hear the shift in tone when he says her name. Almost as if it hurts him to say it. It hurts him to say it.

         "Are we talking honesty here?"

         "So you don't think she does."

         "That's not what I meant."

         "That's what it sounded like."

         "Look. Aubrey isn't the only girl to ever exist. Not everything is meant to last. And I know how much you love her and how much pain it'll bring you if the two of you weren't meant to be, but, it might turn out that way. Eventually. And don't worry. Your ability to be in and stay in a romantic relationship doesn't measure your worth. Okay? And you're already a great person so you shouldn't doubt yourself. If Aubrey doesn't have the ability to be a good person, then so be it. As long as you are, right? You can't control her, but she can't control you."
