Toby explained what a terrible mistake Varis had made. Jinx wanted to be irritated, but she didn’t. Instead, she was glad that Varis still had affection in his heart. But now what were they supposed to do? The antidote was gone, Varis was slowly being infected and everyone else in the world was in danger.
Without giving a second thought, Jinx stormed out of the house and sprinted to the science lab, Varis and Toby trailed behind, unsure about what was inside her head. When she got to the laboratory, she explained that she had found the antidote to the zombie bites. The scientists did not believe her, but after she showed them her bite, they decided that they would try to extract some of the antidote and make more.
The plan had worked. Some of the antidote was taken out of Jinx’s wound and they attempted to make more of the cure. Jinx stood back to watch, but in the corner of her eyes she could see Varis looking drowsy and tired. Briefly after that, he fainted.
There was nothing that Jinx could do. She waited ages for the antidote to be ready and tears began to blur her eyes. She continuously asked the scientists if they had finished, but it was always the same negative answer. Jinx waited for an hour, or even more. The scientists said that they had found the chemicals that the antidote was made out of, so all they needed was to blend them together in the correct order.
A few more minutes passed. Jinx could feel her heart beat louder than a drum as Varis’ breathing slowly disappeared. The scientists had finally been able to finish the recipe and Jinx immediately rushed to Varis and poured the antidote on his scratch. Nothing happened for a while. Toby and Jinx thought that they had lost their friend forever… But they were wrong. Varis opened his eyes and stood upright on the bed. Jinx squeezed him until his lungs almost burst.
“I thought you hated me,” Varis struggled as Jinx tightened her hug.
More relieved tears flowed out of her eyes, “hate you? No, idiot… I may scold you at times, but that doesn’t mean I don’t care.”
