Tryouts Part 2

The football team came running over as soon as Jug and his crew sat down. Archie sat next to Jug so that they could talk strategy.

"How did it go?" Archie asked.

"She already knew." Jug replied.

"I didn't tell her" said Archie sounding disappointed.

"I know" Jug replied.

"Do you think that we should stop doing this?" Jug asked. Just then they overheard Chuck commenting on how hot Betty and her new friend looked. Archie raised his eyebrows at Jug.

"Do you want to handle that or should I" Arch asked.

"Go for it" Jug replied. Archie looked over at Chuck and made eye contact. He then slowly shook his head no. Chuck scowled but shut up. The entire football team knew that Archie would come for them if they asked Betty out. It kept them in line so far but by the looks of Chuck and Reggie, it wouldn't last much longer.

"We are going to have to start actually hurting some of these guys soon. These threats aren't going to keep them in line much longer, especially after seeing Betty dance." Archie said.

"Can your guys start cracking heads?" he asked.

"No" Jug replied. "I'm not going to put my crew in harm's way. We need to stop this. Betty is never going to forgive us if she finds out, especially if we start harming people."

Archie glared at his friend and said "You just want to leave her to these wolves? You saw what happened to her sister. Do you want that to happen to our Betty?"

"Betty is so much stronger than Polly ever was. That would never happen to her." Jug snapped.

"Can you be sure?" Archie snapped. Jug thought about it. Polly was three years older than Betty and had her heart broken by an older guy when she was a sophomore. She tried to commit suicide and Betty found her and saved her. Polly was now living in a mental health hospital and it looked like she may never leave.

Jug shook his head. "Alright Arch, I'll help one more time but after this, no more. I won't tell her but I can't keep doing this". Archie agreed knowing that Jug would never stand by this decision. The minute he saw her with another guy, his jealousy would get the best of him. What neither of them noticed was a new boy sitting directly behind them, listening to every word they said.

Tryouts began with the pair routines first. A few couples went and then it was B and V's turn. The bleachers were abuzz with questions about Veronica and how she ended up with Betty.

Cheryl announced "Next up, the lovely Betty and Veronica. Veronica just moved here and we all adore Betty so lets show them some love". The crowd clapped loudly as the girls took their places. They did a great job and performed flawlessly. The crowd loved them and they got the loudest applause of all the pairs.

After all the pairs performed, it was time for the solo dances. This is what made Jug and Arch nervous. Betty was the last one to perform, right after V. V did wonderfully and no one doubted that she would be in a cheerleading uniform on the first day of school. Cheryl introduced Betty and the crowd excitedly clapped. Betty was a popular and beloved girl and everyone wanted to see her do well. She started to dance and the crowd was spellbound. She moved with grace and beauty. Jug and Arch could barely breath because she was so sexy. At the end, the crowd erupted and didn't stop clapping for a long time. Once they could breath again, the boys looked at each other and groaned.

"This is going to be harder than we thought." Archie said.

"Remember the rules. No saying anything bad about Betty and no actual violence.' Jug responded.

"Can we just tell everyone that one of your goons is her boyfriend?" Arch asked Jug considered it.

"I'm not sure that would work. Plus that would make someone from my crew have a target on his back".

Arch nodded, "Ok, then we are going to have to stay near her and run interference then." Jug agreed and they almost ran down the bleachers so they would be the first ones to congratulate Betty.

Betty hugged them both and introduced them to Veronica. The boys wanted to go have a movie night at Archie's house but Betty wanted to take V to Pop's so that she could make more friends. Neither of them could say no so they all walked toward the locker rooms together to get ready along with Jug's crew and Cheryl. Jug and his crew sat outside the girls locker room door while Archie and the girls showered and changed.

"I feel like we have a crew of body guards" V commented while changing.

"If you're going to hang out with Betty, you better get used to it. Arch and Jug usually won't let her out of their sight" Cheryl said.

"They aren't that bad!" Betty said.

"Yes they are. I'm surprised that they let you go to Pop's alone today" Cheryl said. Betty laughed while she thought about it. She hadn't outright lied but just implied to each boy that the other would be there. She was glad she did since she met V and was convinced to try cheerleading. She knew that if she had been with the boys, that wouldn't have happened.
