It felt like forever as Erin drove to the firehouse, although she was not supposed to, the lights and sirens echoes through the streets as she tried her best to dodge every piece of traffic.
Jay had yet to speak, since leaving the precinct he had been trapped in thought. Questions were running through his mind.
What had happened? Why was Emilia going into labour 6 weeks early? What were they going to do? Were they ready for the twins? Were they going to be healthy?
Erin glanced over to her partner. She debated whether or not to speak. Or if she even knew what was worrying him most.
"She'll be okay Jay. They'll all be okay" she reassured. Checking her mirrors before leaving the junction.
Jay took a breath, a deep one at that. "I just- I don't know how I'm going to do this." He laughed, albeit shaky. "She's been my best friend for years and we're going to have two children. It's just-"
Erin nodded, listening to every word. They had tried to make their relationship work but everything seemed to come in the way. She often took the time to wonder what would have happened if they had been stronger and their relationship had survived. Shaking her head she tried her best to remove those thoughts.
"You're going to be a great dad and Mia a mom." She said.
Jay looked to the window. He just hoped he'd be there for her.

"I WANT JAY" Emilia's scream could be heard throughout the firehouse. But that didn't much matter, the whole house was stood outside the showers as they awaited any news.
Boden had tried ushering them to do some work but it was not working. He had eventually asked Connie to mark Firehouse 51 as out of service.
Casey and Matt had been in and out, unfortunately they were the best hope Emilia had. There had been a serious accident which was blocking the only route to the firehouse off one of the freeways.
They had tried contacting Gabby and Sylvie to see if there was a way they could get here but to no avail. Everyone was stuck. The only option was running but that was not a possibility for the ambo. They couldn't leave the van unattended.
Whilst they wished Emilia had a friendly face and preferably female. Today of all days, it was not an option. With the paramedics on scene and Stella off sick, Emilia was the only female on duty.

"What's going on?" Jay asked as they suddenly came to a stop. He looked outside and realised that no one was moving.
Erin shrugged. Trying through the radio to see what was going on.
It was then Jay noticed the familiar Prius only a couple of cars in front. It was Will. He must have left just before them.
Not waiting another moment he jumped from Erin's car.
"What's going on?" He asked his brother as they met on the sidewalk.
"There's been an accident. ES on scene but I just can't get through." Will explained.
"We'll have to go on foot." Jay suggested. Calling Erin over, she got the idea.
Mounting her car on the pavement just in case the traffic began flowing again, she quickly locked it and met with the brothers.
"Natalie's in surgery, I thought a woman's touch was needed." Will mentioned.
Erin sighed. "It looks like I'm going to be needed after all."
"Have you heard from them? Do we know how she is?"
Jay shook his head. "I haven't even able to get through. I'll try again."
Picking up his phone, he dialled Matt Casey.
It rang for a while until someone answered.
"Matt?" He asked immediately.
"It's me."
"Em. Are you okay? I won't be long Em, just hang in there for me." He said, a small tear welling in his eye.
"I hate you Jay Halstead. Why couldn't you be here! They're not supposed to be ready. They haven't finished growing"
Jay could tell Emilia was in some severe pain, she didn't usually ramble unless she was hurting. He couldn't help but cringe at every gasp. In more ways than one he was glad that he wasn't the one who was giving birth.
"I'll be there. I'll be there." He promised.
Will asked could he have the phone. "Hi Em, I know you don't want to talk to me but I need to speak with who's with you."
"Nice to speak to you too William. And where's Nat? Or Gabby or anyone? Why do I have to have these two novices near two newborns. Because I'm sure you wouldn't like them tugging and pulling at your-"
"Em? Just give Casey the phone."
She must have done as she was told as because Casey appeared. "Will?"
"Yeah okay, it's me. We're on our way but Emilia's premature so these twins will come quickly. I'm gonna need you to take the fort until I get there?" He explained.
"You know she'd rather jump in the fire?"
"I know but these babies lives are at risk, she needs to know that."

Kelly paced and paced. With every scream and cry he winced.
"We can't wait much longer, Em." Casey said softly. "We need to make sure nothings wrong."
Emilia nodded. "Just do it. But Casey I swear to God if you utter a word to anyone you'll be dead." She said with gritted teeth.
Casey gently helped Mia. He didn't have to do much, they could see the head.
"Okay, Mia. Twin one is ready. I need you to push. You know what to do."
"No." Emilia refused, "not without Jay."
Kelly decided to take this moment to step in. He crouched behind Emilia. A hand on her shoulder. "Em, if you don't push things could turn badly okay? You know the drill we've been on these calls before."
That seemed to do the trick and Emilia began to push.

"Hey boy or girl? What you reckon?" Otis asked as they stood outside the door.
Cruz, who stood next to him immediately answered. "Two boys. Guaranteed."
"Boy and girl" Capp said.
"Too obvious" Otis rolled his eyes.
"Girls" Herrmann said. Before a smile appeared on his face. "Imagine two mini Emilia's running around the place."
"It would be hell." A voice said from behind them.
All of the firefighters turned around immediately, but who was it?
