At the sound of his brother's cry, Will jumped into the room, the firehouse quickly following behind, they didn't care for boundaries. Something was going wrong and they could tell straight away.
Upon opening the door, they caught sight of Jay helplessly watching as his girlfriend was convulsing on the floor, her head hitting everything in her way and blood seeping through the towel Will had placed gently over her.
Quick to act, Will sprang into action, barking orders left right and centre. "Someone needs to grab her head, Jamie. I need you to make sure you keep her as still as possible. She may have aggravated her spine injury."
Jamie did as he was told, every step reminding him of the mess he saw his sister only 11 months ago. She was helpless once again.
"What's happening?" Jay screamed, worridly. "She was talking to me and then she must-see just stopped."
He had been speaking to her, she was clutching the baby and then her voice started to fade, as if she was falling asleep. He had made the snap decision to take the small baby off of her, not knowing that she was about to set off into some type of seizure.
The baby began to cry and Jay couldn't help but feel helpless, he rocked the baby gently back and forth so she began to quieten.
Erin decided to step forward and comfort Jay, she could see that he was finding it hard to hold the newborn and stay focused on what was happening with Emilia.
"Jay, hey, you need to listen to me. You need to take care of this little one. We've got Mia covered, Will and Jamie are with her, okay?" Erin said, trying to calm Jay Halstead down.
To her surprise he nodded, tears flowing silently as he kept his eyes strained on his girlfriend.
"Just tell me she's going to be alright"
Although Will was working ON Emilia, he knew he also had to calm his brother down despite being eternally grateful for Erin's attempt to calm him down.
"Look Jay, when Mia had the accident she was severly injured. I think this internal pressure on her body has caused her brain to swell. We need to get her and the baby to a hospital as soon as we can." He explained calm and collectedly.
"There's an or, what's the or?" Kelly asked. He had kept quiet just trying to make himself useful in any way he could.
The doctor looked sadly at him, "or we lose Emilia."
Jay's eyes shot up but he seemed to understand, but Will hadn't answered all of his queries. Too scared to ask, he kept quiet but that didn't stop Erin asking what everyone else was thinking.
"And what about the other baby?"
That seemed to gain attention, as Emilia's body seemed to slowly stop convulsing. Will looked toward the detective but it wasn't him he spoke to, it was Jay. "I think we're already too late."
Everyone seemed to understand and whilst they all would love to make sure the baby was okay, they knew that Emilia's life came first. That was just the way it was.
"Ambo is back!" Matt Casey screamed as he peered his head out the door.
Gabby and Sylvie rushed straight into the showers with little disruption, they had a spinal board and oxygen at the ready.
Lowering the board to the floor, Will instructed everyone to carefully lift their lieutenant to her side and gently put the board under her back.
With little fuss they maneuvered Emilia into the ambo, Will turned to his brother and instructed him to stay here until the neonatal ambulance arrived.
