It had been 3 weeks since Emilia Frances was hospitalized by one of her husband's PTSD flashbacks. She had been discharged the previous morning and was currently on at Kelly's where she would be living until she fully recovered.Jamie had been called back to active duty leaving Emilia in Kelly's care. Though Jamie and Kelly had always been at odds, it took great comfort knowing that his baby sister had someone that truly cared for her by her side.
Steve had been put under the care of the Army Mental Health unit and was currently staying at one of the base camps. In 6 months, if he passed his evaluation he could report for active duty which he fully intended on unbeknownst to Mia.

She caught sight of herself in the mirrored dresser as she gently sat up. The bruises were now a yellow color and the cuts had started to scab over. Her hair was all over the place and was tied loosely. She wore an over sized Blackhawks Jersey hung on Mia's body, her shorts hidden underneath. Last night Gabby and Matt had brought Mia home in Gabby's car because the mustang had been too low for her. Gabby and helped her change and she was pretty sure that she crashed straight after that.Still suffering from back and neck pain Mia found it hard to get up that morning. She tried reaching for her clothes but that just intensified the pain.
"Kelly?" She called lightly. She could hear Kelly moving around, he had most likely come back from his morning run.
As soon as he heard his best friend Kelly dropped his cereal to the table and wandered to the guest room he hadn't barged in but instead stood by the door and asked if she was okay.
"I need your help" Emilia said embarrassed.
"Sure. Can I come in?" Kelly asked.
Yeah" Kelly entered the room to find Emilia sat on the bed, an over-sized shirt that belonged to him and a pair of shorts. Pointing to the clothes on in a gym bag she said slightly embarrassed. "I can't-"
Following her line of sight he understood what the problem had been. Kelly was quick to attend to his friends needs he didn't say anything nor did he question it. "You're up early. You okay?" Kelly asked.
"I had a killer headache. Couldn't sleep" But that was a lie. She didn't want to sleep because deep down she knew that if she did then she have to remember that Steve wasn't going to be there for her all over again. "Tried getting up-I'm sorry"
"Wanna take some of those meds Will got you?" Kelly asked gently. He knew what Mia was like so he had decided to prompt her.
"No I'm okay" Emilia smiled. It was a smile that she used often, a smile that usually worked. Hissing slightly as Kelly lifted her leg quickly and reassuring him that it was okay she looked up to him. "What time are you on shift?"
"In about an hour" He said, concentrating on not hurting his best friend as he helped her stand. "You sure you're gonna be okay on your own?"
"Yeah yeah."
"Come on" Kelly guided the stiffened firefighter towards the sofa. She tried lowering herself to the couch but cried in pain making the lieutenant move to her side at an instant and helped her. He helped her settle on the sofa and moved the cushions and covered her in a blanket making sure she was comfy."I'll go get your painkillers" Knowing that Mia would just protest more he moved to the kitchen as quick as he could.
Sending a quick message to the chief explaining he would be a bit late Kelly then looked through the cupboards for the painkillers Mia had been prescribed.
