Today is the 24th of December and Christmas is hours away. With that in mind, I made plans. Well, I tried to make plans until my cousin said he will be going out with friends.
Now, this confused me a bit. We both come from a place where Christmas is about family. Sharing dinner and enjoying each other's company. With him being my only blood relative in a radius of just less than three thousand kilometers it was a no-brainer for me to ask him about Christmas.
Our conversation was cut short because he was needed by his boss. He's working at a hospital so it was unavoidable. With family out of the equation in my first Christmas here in South Korea, I decided I'll just binge-watch movies and shows the whole night or until I get tired.
I went out in the afternoon to buy some groceries for my one-man Christmas party. As I rode the bus to the supermarket I looked out the window and saw that everything was just about normal. Except for the decorations, everything looked normal. No busy streets, no families rushing to buy food for later. Just people going about with their day.
The supermarket I came to was not even packed with costumers. It was more than regular but not that you'd hit a cart if you just move a few centimeters. Back home the lines would stretch out from the cashier to the back of the store.
I got what I came for and left. On the ride back home the streets were getting busier. "Ha! Now you want to buy stuff! Why didn't you do that earlier so that there are no lines!" I thought to myself. I'll soon realize that I thought wrong.
I got on my couch after setting the timer for the food I'm cooking. Turned the TV on and started watching whatever was on. My phone rang and I picked up the call.
"Y/N-Oppa why aren't you here yet?" The other person on the line screamed. I can hear really loud music in the background.
"Here where?"
"At the dorm dummy! We're waiting for you."
"What? Why aren't-"
"I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the loud music. Just hurry up and come here!"
My first Christmas here just got a lot more confusing. I'm pretty sure the girls are off work today and tomorrow so they should be at their homes celebrating Christmas with their families.
I got up and changed clothes. By the time I was ready to go, the food was also done simmering so I just shut it off and left it. I got a message from Nayeon.
"Oppa buy some soju on your way here please?"
I replied with a no but she begged that one bottle wouldn't be that bad. I don't find soju that strong but I don't know about the girls. I thought that since I was gonna be there to watch them, it shouldn't be a problem so I just agreed.
Loud music was seeping through the cracks of their door. I'm already asking myself what the hell is going on. I knocked for a few times and just realized that they probably can't hear me so I just peeked my head through the door. Mina catches me looking through and gestured me to come in. I was greeted by a sight of hyper girls listening and dancing wildly to their music.
"Yah Y/N-Oppa is here!" Mina announced as loud as she could but nobody could hear her.
I went inside and Nayeon saw me as she turned her head to the beat of the music. Seeing what I had in hand, she rushed to me and ushered me to the living room and taking the soju out of my hand. The room was in chaos. Dahyun, Momo, Sana, and Nayeon were dancing their hearts out while Tzuyu, Chaeyoung, and Mina watched. Jihyo and Jeongyeon were busy with their phones calling someone.
